Babcock granted permission to talk to other teams

Money and a bad 4-5 years? Toronto isn't going anywhere anytime soon, they are in worse shape then Buffalo.

If he wins in Toronto he'll be a god, if not he'll at least be paid like one. Plus I'm sure he'll have more power in the organization, then he's got in Detroit.

LeBrun saying SJ is out. It's said the Wings and Sabres are out, and it's said the Blues are working things out with Hitch. If the Leafs are the only team left, what's the hold up? Obviously someone is wrong here.

I don't think the Wings are out until it's official that he signed with another team. One thing I keep coming back to is Holland himself saying that money won't be an issue. He may be playing hardball, but I wouldn't be shocked if he matched. Others have said that they didn't want to play ball in the field and that they were pissed, but Holland has only been quoted directly as saying money won't be a factor.

I get that, however they couldn't win spending like Detroit why will things change now? Players already don't want to go to Toronto, and they weren't lining up to play in Detroit because Babcock was here either.

If it's Toronto, Babcock won't win there, ie second round of the playoffs for three years at least. If they sign him it's to get a big gate boost and a big name coach in hopes of signing big name free agents.

Blowing money in free agency is a part of what put that franchise in the current mess its in.

That's assuming Shanny is good at his job. He may not be. Nobody knows.

Definitely. I'm setting an extremely low bar here. Shanny has shown himself to be not insane and is at least saying the right things, though he has no track record as team president.

The GM is the key. Going to Toronto without that in place is putting a ton of faith in Shanahan hiring the right guy for that job.

Yeah, but if your Toronto you gotta start somewhere. So you start with a coach, and if they are smart(big if) the next step would be to clean house and start over.

I've never done either job, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like they'd both be too involved for one person to do both. I mean maybe I'm underestimating the work load, but it doesn't feel like a formula for success.

GM and coach almost never works in sports, but coaches have big enough egos where they wouldn't pass it up.
