Sounds like Holland wants to hire Blashill from this interview. Just needs to "talk" to him and make sure GR keeps going in the playoffs.

Exactly. He'd have at least reached out to other coaches to start some conversations if he wasn;t all but set on Blash.

Agree. Feel like he's being a bit aloof when it comes to the Blash situation.

Loved his response when someone mentioned Bylsma. "Well, that's a name..."

Yeah, he wants to let the guy focus on the playoffs. Hopefully by Holland not being blunt about it, the media won't start nagging Blash

Sportsnet stream is over, but periscope continues!

Glosses right over the coaching search and heads right into talking about pro-scouting for the off-season, the combine, the draft.

Say what you will about his moves as a GM. The guy is as professional/classy as can be.

Definitely. I mean, the only thing you can knock him for is playing it too safe sometimes. Could be a hell of a lot worse for sure.

I really liked that Kenny talked about not being happy about the early playoffs exits the past few years. For that reason he said that's why he didn't want to sign babs to more than 5 years which is an excellent point.

I also thought that was good reason for not upping the term of the offer. Especially when he said just making the playoffs isn't the goal. I hope maybe they can add some pieces to make the next coach's transition a little easier.

At the same time he could give a Stanley Cup conteder roster to Babs and not Playoff contender roster...

This team needs ROSTER changes

How do you know? Maybe the wings will be a top tier team with a new coach. Babs Haas some questionable line combos, and his refusal to demote Ericsson after so many terrible mistakes every game was atrocious. How come Smith got no pp time, how come Weiss could get 3 points in a game and lose 2 minutes ice time next game? This team needs an offensive rh defenseman. Otherwise it's actually a good team that Babcock couldn't motivate to even start games on time or play a full 60 minutes

Hitchcock should be a frontrunner

A worse version of Babcock that can't get an even more talented team than the Wings out of the first round? Hitchcock wears on his players within a couple years everywhere he goes. Blashill already has a relationship with most of the roster in Detroit. I get the inexperience angle, but Hitchcock doesn't make sense to me given the situation here and the Red Wings plans to continue getting younger.

Hitchcock to me comes off as a coach who has the same systems and style as Babs, but is a s***ty people person. Babs is more intelligent in terms of getting the best out of his players. Players have a history of tuning Hitch out.

Bylsma is madly overrated. Players like him, but a good coach will coach circles around the guy.

In other words, Blash is the guy. If Blash turns out to not be the guy, go after Tippet.

My perfect scenario that was never gonna happen was Blashill as the head coach with Babcock in a more senior role.

I remember when Babs started in Detroit he said in an interview that 10 years is about the longest you should ever stay in one place professionally - so it seemed obvious he was going to look for a change.

I think Blashill as head coach will be a positive for the organization. A new voice, and someone who knows the future leaders of this team better than anyone. He'll be great for integrating guys like Pulkkinen, Marchenko, Ouellet, Athanasiou and Mantha into NHL roles. I'm hopeful at least. But it's important to get a good replacement for Blash in GR. That's my only serious concern.

A new voice? He sounds exactly like Babs... it'll be like he never left! :tounge:
