Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick

For the right package I wouldn't mind seeing Mantha go...It is just really strange timing isn't it? Manthas stocks aren't even that high at the moment, under achieved in his first year and was publicly scorned for it by Devellano. I just don't see much of a return on this or do I get Hollands tactic other then to say we're all in folks...

I'm pretty sure Holland and co realized we don't currently have a potential stud offensive defensemen in the system last year when he went out and made offers to every dman last July.

Sign Franson

Trade for Phaneuf

Draft defensemen

Kronwall-Phaneuf

Dekeseyer-Franson

Ericsson-Marchenko.... Probably Quincey

After all the hype, the actual salaries these guys get are a little more realistic, especially with the general inflated salaries around the league. Adding 60 more points from the back end is a massive boost. Having defensemen that can shoot the puck from the point change teams entire defensive strategy against us

Franson will be no better than Marchenko in 2 years, and will cost $5,000,000 more.

Not even close to the same type of defensemen. Ericsson>Marchenko his entire career

How bout Larkin for draisaitl?

Ha. I had a feeling someone would suggest that.

I don't think I would, honestly.

Value wise is probably really close, but a michigan born and raised, physically NHL ready center with #1 potential, plus his defensive acumen and IQ, he has too much stuff going for him for me to do that.

I'd want a Larkin-drasaitl one two punch down the middle, plus, two guys with number one potential gives us a better chance that one would hit his ceiling.

I'd raise the offer to them by adding both Marchenko and oulette, or by sending them Howard with one million retained, or by another first round pick though.

No thanks.

We need defense, not to destroy our forward depth while we're at it.

3rd line center, prospect who may or may not be a top line wing, potential second pair d for a highly skilled young center and moving down 12 spots. How does that destroy anything? Edited by DickieDunn

because we can draft a really good player in a deep draft at 19th overall.

Some recent 19th overall picks.

2013 Kerby Rychel

2012 Andrei Vasilevski

2011 Oscar Klefbom

2010 Nick Bjugstad

2009 Chris Kreider

2008 Luca Sbisa

2007 Logan MacMillan

2006 Mark Mitera

2005 Jakub Kindl

2004 Lauri Korpikoski

2003 Ryan Getzlaf

I don't necessarily think it would be a bad trade but I still wouldn't do it. My bet would be that Edmonton wins that trade in 5 years time. Sure, all signs point toward Drailsaitl being a stud top line center, but like Mantha, at this point it's all just potential. He hasn't "proven" anything at the NHL level yet. His ceiling is a very good top line center, but I t's possible he tops out at a good 2nd line center. I think Sheahan will be that in a year or two. Then on top of that we lose a very high end prospect in Mantha, that for whatever reason, a lot of people have seem to given up on, after one season of pro... as well as a decent defense prospect in Ouellet and we also move back in this years draft... No Thanks!!!

Sheahan might be a #2 center but not unless he learns how to use his size more. As much as people complain about Franzen, Sheahan is the least physical big guy I've ever seen. If anything the Oilers say no to that, I'm counting on then wanting some decent depth guys and help on defense along with a potential scorer in Mantha. Of course I don't believe Mantha will be that great so as far as I'm concerned getting a guy with better potential, especially a center or a more physical guy, is a good idea.

Dickie, I don't disagree. The Oilers very well may turn down that trade proposal, but I do believe in the end, they would win that trade. I also agree on Sheahan, and I think he may be better suited for 3rd line center than 2nd, but he does have the potential to get there. Getting a guy with better potential (especially a center) is definitely a good idea, but if we're going to make a huge trade like that, getting rid of some really nice pieces, I'd prefer go with more of a sure thing. I also think we should be targeting a more pressing need right now and that's defense...
