Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick

Dickie, I don't disagree. The Oilers very well may turn down that trade proposal, but I do believe in the end, they would win that trade. I also agree on Sheahan, and I think he may be better suited for 3rd line center than 2nd, but he does have the potential to get there. Getting a guy with better potential (especially a center) is definitely a good idea, but if we're going to make a huge trade like that, getting rid of some really nice pieces, I'd prefer go with more of a sure thing. I also think we should be targeting a more pressing need right now and that's defense...

Unless you're trading for a young established player who would probably cost even more, he's as close to a sure thing as you're going to get.

Yup, and that's what I'm saying. If I'm making a trade for a young number one center, I'd rather put a bigger package together for a proven elite center like Ryan Johansen. I know, I know, never going to happen... Even then, with our need on defense, I'd rather put a similar package together for a young elite defenseman, like Justin Faulk...

I'd welcome Draisaitl to the Wings, but I'd just be reluctant to give up a huge package for him...

The Wings have one legit high end center prospect in Larkin. I see AA as more of a winger with his skill set. Defense is a need too, but the Oilers are loaded with top flight young forwards and could move one. I don't see any young high end defensemen available.

And by the time Datsyuk and Z retire who knows who they could have drafted by then or signed in FA. What if Mantha turns out better then Draisaitl because there is no proof he will be a number one center either. He's just as unknown as Mantha at this point.

It seems like Ryan o Reilly is available how about using the first round pick and more to acquire him?

Over rated and overpaid

True, but I think there's a netter chance that he's an impact player than Mantha

Better chance than Mantha alone, absolutely, but even then, that's not a guarantee. Better chance to have more of an impact than the entire trade package combined? I have my doubts.

truth is I know we aren't close to the cup right now but we nearly eliminated a team that made it to the finals I still think we are a good team we just need pieces that can fall into the right form I think if mantha can net us someone who can right now fill that great but if not than hold on to him and try to work from the core

Mantha, Larkin AA is a future top line that I'd like to see mature in Detroit.

I agree on AA and Larkin wouldn't be surprised if Tats or Goose are on that line Mantha on the 2nd with Pulks

Mantha has the skill, he just came off a major injury in a league that is more difficult than he has ever seen before. He just has some confidence issues. The skill is there. If he gets in a full training camp and season and still is underperforming at the end of next season then I'll hit the panic button. I think he is gonna have a bounce back season however.

How does a player acquire stupid speed? Does a team pay more for this? Can young players go to stupid speed schools in the summer?

Nah, you go to school to get smart speed. There are a number of ways to get stupid speed.. like watching speed, on speed, while speeding.

Exactly. There isn't any need to start panicking about Mantha or thinking about jettisoning him off somewhere else at this point. The kid started way behind, came off a pretty serious injury, and still put up 32 points in a league that was way harder than the QMJHL. I agree. If he has a good camp, starts the season strong, and works everyday as a pro should, there's no reason this guy couldn't be a good permanent scorer for the Wings. He has the skill set and the size in a forward that the Wings really haven't had since Franzen was awesome and Shanahan tbh. I don't expect KH and co to give up on Mantha just because he struggled in his first pro season. If he'd done that with all our prospects we'd be nowhere right now. I think the thing that has changed with Mantha was the fact that he was so hyped coming out of juniors, and that raised everyone's expectations. Then he got injured. And everyone ended up disappointed. Yet with most other first year pro's, I think most would have been happy with the result considering the circumstances.
