Wings open to trading Mantha and/or their 1st Round Pick

Plus, he's huge.

So he's going to be great.

Mantha having a bad season then getting traded to Toronto with huge expectations could shatter this kids confidence completely

I didn't even really think about that.

Ha.

Can you imagine all the pressure he'd be under?

He'd be 5' nothing in no time.

The only way I'd be okay with giving up mantha for phaneuf is if we made other moves, just bringing him in isnt worth the trouble.

Yes, he'd make us better for a few years, and take some of the physical strain away from Kronwall, but why would we want them declining together....

It seems counterproductive.

If they retain 2mil, I'd be more accepting of it.

if we land one, what do we do with marchenko/oulette?

One of them will probably be the seventh defenseman or they both can start in GR if necessary. As they do not have to pass through waivers.

Kindl should be traded or waived. There's the seventh spot open.

I'm not against trading Smith away as well. There's another.

Kronner

Green/Franson

Dekeyser

Quincey

Ericsson

(Smith)

Marchenko

XO

I was thinking more like signing both Green and Franson. Buyout Weiss if he can't be traded. Trade one of Ouelette or Marchenko plus Smith plus Jurco to get a decent scoring winger in a trade. But that's likely not realistic. Lol

We don't have room for both Franson and Green, neither roster spots nor cap space. And there's also no way both would sign here anyway. There will be a dozen other teams going hard for both of these guys as well. I'm okay with going after both in hopes of landing one of them, but it would be foolish to think we have any chance of getting both. I'm not worried about making space for Ouellet and Marchenko but there is no way either sit as the number 7 defenseman when both can be sent down to Grand Rapids...

Thank you for the links and info, Lashoff/Kindl/Smith are all expendable and we could bring in 2 upgrades looks like with exception of cap issues

Cap issues could be worked around if you're able to move Weiss... and while I don't totally disagree with the idea of getting two D upgrades, I think it's more likely that we'll see one or both of Marchenko and XO up on the main roster.

I think it's crucial to see them both up for some extended time to really figure out what we've got because we're going to lose waiver eligibility for both at the end of the season. Either they'll be up next year or they'll be traded.

I'm also not opposed to giving Smith another year to stick (who knows how he'll perform under Blash) or to showcase him for a deadline trade.

Kindl can, and should go.

Lash can be signed, and waived.

If he gets claimed, oh well.
