Preliminary Red Wings Training Camp Roster

I suppose if indeed Franzen is also out come opening night, sure he probably has a real good ( I almost wrote realgud) chance to play some games here to start. BUT and this is a big BUT, would Holland waive Andersson (and to a lessor extent, Ferraro and Callahan) and risk losing him (I know, not a big loss, but he is good for injury fill ins) when he can send Larkin down with no risk?

Of course we already know, barring a trade, eventually the cap issue will need to be dealt with when Pav (and Franzen if he's out) gets back. So these guys may have to be waived anyhow, but if Pav is out longer and Franzen never gets back, is it worth losing these guys for good when Larkin can come and go as he pleases without risk?

How exactly does Holland "sound different"? Every single off-season, pre-season, training camp, Kenny has always said that so and so prospect will be given every opportunity to make the Red Wings... They never do, and for good reason. These kids need time to develop. Larkin will turn 19 next week, he has played one season (35 games) of college hockey and one partial playoff (6 games) in the American League. As high as we all are on this kid, and as good as he has looked every step of the way, I don't think he is ready for the grind of an 82 game season at the highest level, against the best players in the world. He would absolutely benefit from a full season in Grand Rapids, and I'm very confident that he will get that...

Kenny seems to be mentioning more often about Larkin having a legit shot at making the team. Even when he's not asked about Larkin he brings it up. He has mentioned about Larkin being in the team only makes sense if he's playing solid minutes each game. If Blash believes that Larkin is ready now, he will be on the team. He would be centering the third line. Not facing other teams top lines. Its not like he'd be expected to match up against Toews, Crosby or Stamkos. With Dats out I believe there's an opportunity for Larkin to make the team. I'm betting Larkin himself sees the same thing. In the end he likely doesn't make the team and goes down to Grand Rapids which is good too.

82 game in the NHL might do bad for his development.

Jurco got screwed big time. I blame the org for that. He should have been in the AHL last year. His confidence level is a mess right now.

But he's got to move on from last year and somehow play liek an NHL player this year and move on.

I honestly feel liek Nyquist and Tatar was very lucky to be in the AHL all those games that they were. When they were called to play here full time they came booming.

It worked out for both parties.
