Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason

I seriously checked the date on the OP to see if someone had bumped an old thread.

Honestly I don't care much what Holland says, we'll see what he does. But I'm not holding my breath.

Sign a former now over the hill ex Wing, kick some tires and wait for a "hockey deal" then he'll give his presser stating that he likes this team, injured player # will be like an UFA/trade deadline acquisition and the prices were to high. And that's from the former most active GM every damn year it's frustrating as hell.

Next year we can just change the title to 2016 and it will still be same :(

UFA day used to be our christmas and Santa Holland provided the necessary pieces god, meanwhile the Hawks have won 3 championships in the last 6 years, made the western conference finals 2 times and the Kings have won 2 in 4 AND they've added Looch but yeah no hockey-deals..

the crazy thing is Dats injury will open up a spot and depending on how long his gone and what itw ill take for him to be back 100% it will be good to keep Weiss but if we don't trade or nab someone who plays number 1 Weiss or Z?

Was this seriously a question on this forum?

An even slower 40 year old Zetterberg is twice the hockey player Weiss would be. If Larkin makes the cut I think he'll be centering the third line and Sheahan could be centering the 2nd line. Weiss may be given a shot at 2nd line center but if he flopps it our centers will likely be Zetterberg, Sheahan, Larkin, Glendenning.

If Larkin doesn't make the cut then Weiss will probably center the 3rd line if he blows his chance at 2nd line.

Don't get me wrong, I like Weiss, but I'm also trying to be practical in my thought process. We need two way centers. Plain and simple.

It's been said repeatedly in this thread-this year's UFA class *sucks*. Why are people distraught that Kenny doesn't want to play in the muck? We have awesome prospects coming up, and I for one don't want to hamstring this team with overblown contracts on mediocre players that will then turn around and ass eff us when we try to keep all our young guys down the line.

That being said, I certainly wouldn't mind a good trade or two, but I want nothing to do with UFAs this year.

In other news:

The sky is blue.

Rain is wet.

I'd kill to make a major signing one of these days. I want a stellar defenseman, a Vezina goalie, that kind of thing. I want all the waiting to be really, really worthwhile.

If the salary cap wasn't an issue, we would see the Wings do this.

I still remember the awesome high profile signings when the salary cap wasn't in place. Man, those made for fun free agent signing periods.

We've never really had salary cap issues. We were real tight one year and that was about five years ago now. Again, it's not like Holland hasn't tried to make big signings. He's thrown a lot of money around, but he hasn't landed anyone. This idea that some people perpetuate that Holland intentionally hasn't pursued a big deal because of the cap is simply not factual at all.

Frankly I could give 2 s**** about moves that KH 'should' make. Im sorry, but i'll still say the out look of this team is extremely bright. The free agent class SUCKS. And the last thing we need is another Stephen Weiss bad type contract that we'll just regret, take up a roster spot, and block someone who could be better long term making an impact.

This team has a good young coach, who has already got to know half of the team and coached most, if not all of them, who's had success at every level, chomping at the bit to prove he's better or equal to the man he's replacing.

We've got a great goalie tandem, with Mrazek looking like a future stud in the making. Great prospects on D who might FINALLY get a chance to play full time with the team this season like they should have been doing last year.

Some terrific young forwards, Tatar, Nyquist, Sheahan, Pulkkinen, Abby, Helm to name a few that really could keep improving and add to our foreword depth.

Some terrific prospects in GR the likes of Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou, who could be ready to contribute very very soon.

This is a playoff team who nearly defeated the eventual SC finalists. I see no problems in sticking with the program, letting the young guys gradually have bigger roles. I see no need for impatience or any brash moves just to try and 'keep up with the Joneses'. I believe this team will be good for a long time and has several great pieces on the way. I'd rather not see us blow it all with some stupid moves now.

The only thing I want Holland to do today is get rid of Drew Miller. That way, when we win the Stanley Cup this year, we'll do it with a 100% homegrown roster. Thus making Ken Holland the greatest GM in the history of sports.

Dan Cleary tho

Dan Cleary tho

Cleary isn't coming back. He could have been extended at any point up until now and he hasn't for a reason. And even if he does get signed, he'll be in GR for the year. So no worries there. But if you wanted to be a stickler about it, then yeah, neither Cleary nor Miller are Red Wings products. However I'd still contend that a team built 100% with homegrown talent, plus 2 guys picked up off the scrap heap, would still make Holland the best GM in the history of sports.

Oh yes I take pride in their being so much homegrown talent on the wings. Holland said he would build through the draft and that's exactly what he's doing minus a few hiccups

He'll probably be signed at the end of the summer. Holland just doesn't want to sign him yet in case something else comes up that prevents signing him.

Is there a trophy for "Most Homegrown Talent on Your Team?"

Unless there is, I don't care where they are from, if they bring home a big silver cup. Obviously, we have no needs, so why would Holland be looking to improve any position? We did win it all last year, right? Oh, we didnt? Then there is room for improvement.

Sad that Saad went to Columbus. That's a player we could have used. Young and clutch when it matters.

You'd pay saad close to 6million dollars?

He managed to find us a RHD we've been looking for since Rafalski retired, he addressed our lack of center depth after buying out Weiss. More importantly he did both without tying us to either player long term so even if they don't work out, it won't be a disaster.

To top if off he and Mr. Ilitch already worked out a pretty awesome new dance routine with our new additions.

I think we did good today, improved the roster, hopefully we can break the round 1 ceiling and at least get into 2nd round.

I think having a better regular season would drastically help that. We've lost to serious contenders every year other than when we were just awful against Boston. I chalk that up to inexperience though

We really were having a pretty good regular season for quite awhile though. The wheels did fall off down the stretch, but this team looked pretty good early on. We'll definitely be better with Green and Richards this year.
