Wings sign Brad Richards 1 yr, $3 million

It's laughable at how people complain about Holland doing nothing in years past, and now he goes out a makes some deals today, and some people still complain.

Holland signed one of the biggest d-man F/A's today, then picks up an UPGRADE over Weiss, for only one year, and people still aren't happy.

I'm 100% happy with what Holland did today. Well done, sir!

The Richards' deal doesn't hurt us, so it's not a "bad signing". It's just confusing given our center depth and the Weiss buyout.

Joel Ward is good but he made 3 million last year. We can't afford to and shouldn't spend 3 million on a 3rd-4th line player.

Miller is underrated. He is actually a pretty big body, gently nudges everyone into the boards, and comes pretty cheap.

Fixed.

I liked the Green signing and said so. Not sure about this one. I feel like we did this with Modano and Weiss. Past his prime, small left-handed centerman. Not coming here to score goals or be a game breaker.

Not as excited about this signing as Green. We've seen this story before me thinks.

Why is it feeling like now we got the monkey off of our back (babs) We do something? hahahaha Maybe our players will be played where they will perform a bit better. Just my opinion. hahaha

Are you ever not happy?

Green was my number 1 target, don't like the cap hit, like the term so im good with the signing

I am but I don't see anything wrong with these two signings today.

Btw, you overpay on FA, it's like one of the most known things that happen today. Green at 6 is still better then Wiz at 5.5 imo.

Not sure why people are mad about this. I think Richards is extremely underrated and plays well at both ends of the ice. Sure there's a log jam of forwards/centers but I think it's a good problem to have and opens up the ability for trades.

Besides the fact it's a one year deal and we have the cap space. Why just let the money sit there for a year?

Signing Richards is not a move that will win us a Cup. Just not that type of deal. It is a low risk band aid fill in for 1 year deal. Nothing more. datsyuk just had foot surgery. Z is slowing down, Glendening and Helm are checkers. franzen is 1 hit away from serious brain injury. We have a bunch of young talent that isn't ready yet. Richards is just keeping the seat warm for Larkin. Nothing more. as I mentioned in another thread. I would bet good money that Blashill and Holland talked in depth about if larkin is ready. If Blashill who coached him in the PO's thinks he needs a year, this is a very good move. with larkin's lack of size 180 pounds or so, a full year in the minors getting bigger and stronger will only make him better.

Just think we'd be better off giving the kids like pulkkinen jurco more ice time and responsibilities and like I said I'm thinking of once were in the playoffs rather than just getting in and ward shows up every year and gives us a different dimension

And yes I know we always over pay , if it was a ryan suter no one would give a crap, like I said it's just 3 years and getting rid of kind smith Quincey by 2016-2017 season frees up 10 million so I'm all in on the green signing

Does it matter if we overpayed? They're short term contracts and we have the cap space to afford it short term. Their contracts will come off the books in time for our young players to start getting raises

They don't play center? So I am not sure how Richards hurts their chances.

I'm just happy to see Holland taking some chances, especially after Weiss blew up in his face. You can't be scared of free agency just because some deals don't work. You've got to build first and foremost from the draft for sure, more than ever in this era. But you can't accommodate for everything in the draft. You've got to plug holes via trade and free agency. There's no guarantee these moves will get us a Cup or work out at all, but you've got to keep trying. And these deals today are pretty good ones.

But if these too blow up, I really will be convinced that Holland is 100% completely cursed.

Because that's what we do in this forum. We trash talk and play armchair GM. Today couldn't have gone much better. I love the signings. Green took a big discount and Richards is a $3 million player. He also took a discount last year since he was paid big on the prior contract with the Rangers. Other than trading Ericcsson to clear space for one of our young defensemen, I'm happy. B+ Grade Kenny Holland.

In typical LGWs fashion, the thread about the Richards signing has more pages than the Mike Green one.

Fewer years = Less time to complain. Gotta get the shots in while they can, and make em count more than 3 years worth of complaints...
