Voynov pleads "No Contest" to Domestic Violence Charge

The grizzly bear can replace Dats while he's injured. A good line could be Zetterberg-Grizzly bear-Abdelkader. Can the grizzly bear skate?

He has chain saw arms, it doesn't matter if he can skate.

Worse case he can put the chains on the ice and they'll move him fast enough to get where he needs to go.

Don't be dumb.

You're talking out of your ass.

First of all, since he'll be serving time in jail, not prison, there is no such thing as minimum or maximum security. There's just jail. It's the same for everybody. And LA County's main facility, the Twin Towers, is no joke. Unless he PC's up, he'll be spending his 90 days in a 80 man cell full of gang bangers, drug addicts, and murders awaiting trial.

Speaking of those 90 days, since his crime is violent in nature he would be ineligible for any sort of work release program, house arrest or anything of the sort. I'm not certain, but I don't even think he is going to get credit for good behavior. I'd be willing to bet good money that he'll be serving the full 90 days in one of the worst facilities in the nation.

This isn't the 80's or something bro. His lawyer might have gotten him the most favorable outcome possible, but California's DOC takes violent and domestic abuse sentences VERY seriously, and his semi-celebrity status will not buy him any sort of preferential treatment out here.

Hmmm. Gen. Pop.? Twin Towers? Gang bangers, drug addicts, and murderers, huh?

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov has begun to serve his 90-day sentence, but he’s not in any old prison.

According to the Los Angeles Times’ Nathan Fenno, Voynov, who was handed down a 90-day after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of corporal injury to a spouse, has spent the past 23 days in the Seal Beach Police Detention Center in Seal Beach, Calif. The detention center, which has 30 beds, costs Voynov $100 per day, and allowed him to bring in personal items including, “an inexpensive watch, five photographs and up to $100 in cash for purchases from the commissary.”

As part of Voynov’s plea deal, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Eric C. Taylor allowed the Kings blueliner to choose which prison he would serve his sentence at. He chose Seal Beach and entered the facility on July 7.

Even though the sentence is 90 days, Fenno reported it’s likely that Voynov will not serve more than 45 days and be released on good behavior. Voynov will be on probation for the next three years. Fenno reported Voynov must also participate in a 52-week domestic violence prevention program, as well as serve eight hours of community service.

Thanks, that would be much appreciated. There are 3 mods to the hundreds of members. We aren't online all the time, especially at the time these threads are being created, which is usually during work hours or at 3am. I'd rather get 12 reports about the same thread than no reports.

Did know whether I should start a new topic or not so I just added to the thread I already created.

Voynov headed back to Russia.

Now we'll see what the Kings do with Voynov's contract. I suppose they could suspend him in order to retain his rights... We'll see

Kings now have $4.8-million in cap space pending what happens with Mike Richards.

Slava Voynov had $19.25M in actual dollars owed on the remaining four years of his contract ... #LAKings now off the hook.

As of now, Voynov's contract has not been voided. So, we will see how this proceeds.

The Los Angeles Kings have issued the following statement in regards to Slava Voynov. >> http://kings.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=779399

LOS ANGELES – On July 2, Slava Voynov entered a plea of no contest to domestic violence. Since that development, Mr. Voynov has been in the custody of the Seal Beach Detention Center and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. During this period of detention, the Los Angeles Kings decided he would no longer play for the team. The method by which we would ensure this outcome was something we carefully considered and we established a deadline of September 17 – the beginning of our 2015-16 training camp – to reach this outcome. Recently it became evident to us that our conclusion to this process would be to terminate Mr. Voynov’s Standard Player’s Contract. However, Mr. Voynov’s announcement today of his intention to leave the United States and return to Russia makes the termination unnecessary.

As we have publicly stated since Mr. Voynov’s arrest last year, the Kings organization will not tolerate domestic violence. As part of that commitment, we will soon announce a series of new Conduct Awareness Training Initiatives that reflect the values and principles central to our franchise.

So what the Kings are saying is that they were going to terminate his contract a la Mike Richards but don't need to now because he's leaving

re LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 1m1 minute ago

So as I speculated earlier, the play would appear to be to suspend Voynov and retain his NHL rights while he's gone to Russia

Stoll, Richards, and Voynov. Three up, three down. I'm not going to pretend that LA handled these situations well. Or that (at least in the case of Voynov) public opinion didn't force them to do something they otherwise wouldn't have. But the fact is, none of those three dummies will be playing for, or getting paid by, the Los Angeles Kings. And that does resemble accountability, at least a little bit.
