For the record, I didn't turn on him...I have disliked him for a looooooooong time. And you all will see, give him the roster spot he will come in score 5 goals in 2 weeks, then take the rest of the year off on LTIR. Oh, and you will less some good prospects FOR FREE...

he may even come in a score 10 goals in 6 games...but that will be it! Head case....

Yes, you have had an irrational dislike for Franzen for some time. At least you're consistent.

But we will not lose "some good prospects". Franzen is one person, taking one roster spot. We will lose, at most, one prospect. Not anyone I would call good either, but whatever.

This is very clear, you talk about him in pretty much EVERY post.

Ya, jimmy, but it he says he is healthy to start the season, decisions HAVE to be made then to waive players, not when he decides that he needs LTIR in Novemeber, theres the chance that some of our kids will already be claimed. Do you want to sacrifice Pulk for Franzen's what ifs? That is all I am saying with the trade him now idea. In no way do I want to lose any more kids to washed up vets like we have done before.

Just noticed this and Pulkkinen is not one of the guys at risk. If anything, a healthy Franzen creates a battle for the 14th forward spot between Andersson, Callahan and Ferraro. Why in the world would Holland put a guy like Pulkkinen on the chopping block before Callahan or Ferraro?

I'm kind of in the middle where I want Jurco to get a chance on the third line and flourish, but I also want Franzen to come back. He finally isn't counted on to be the go to goal scorer since what? 09? I think he would be a deadly third liner or can give us that much needed size in the top 6. Jurco would have to have quite an amazing bounce back season to score 15-20 goals. Something Franzen can do sleepwalking, when healthy.

I think both Jurco and Pulkkinen will sign for under a mil each. Somewhere around the $900K range, Jurco likely getting slightly more.

I think both will be 3rd liners with some time up on the 2nd, when the inevitable injury hits... Pulkkinen will likely see a lot more time on the power-play. I'm going to say Jurco nets 12 and Pulkkinen nets 17 (over half coming with the man advantage...).

Just some Johan Franzen statistics I hope get considered when we potentially sacrifice Ferrarro, Pulkinnen or Callahan for him:

-He is going to be 36 years old in December.

-He has never played a full 82 game season in his career.

-He has only scored 30+ goals one time during his career - in 2008/2009.

-He has never recorded more than 60 points in any season during his career.

-He has played 33, 54, and 41 games respectively through the past 3 seasons.

-In those 3 seasons, he has scored 37 goals in 128 games - which averages out to be a 23 goal season (in 82 Games).

-Since 2010, he has scored 7 goals and 5 assists in 32 playoff games.

These numbers have predominately come as top 6 forward while lined up on either Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg's wing - but unfortunately, don't all of Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, Justin Abdelkader, Darren Helm and Riley Sheahan deserve or potentially do more with that opportunity than Franzen in 2015/16?

If we believe that he's going to the healthy, rejuvenated, relatively quick power forward that we once saw - maybe I'm wrong and he would deserve a top 6 role... But when that doesn't happen, the collateral effects wont hurt us this year as much as next (assuming the Canadian Dollar doesn't rebound).

It also statistically proven that our team scores more goals and allows fewer goals without him in the lineup - puck possession doesn't really change. Not saying I know what to do with him, but we certainly have a financial problem if he can't crack the top 6.

All in all, you wont catch me in line buying umbrella's for the "pro-Franzen s*** storm" that isn't going to come.

Wonder if Aubry plays as GR's fourth-line center. Out of Larkin, Athanasiou, Miele and Nosek, you have to think that one of them moves to the wing. I think there's too much talent there to play one of them down to the fourth line, but what do I know?

Forward Louis-Marc Aubry signs a one-year, two-way deal with the wings. Aubry will make $575,000 in the NHL and $80,000 in the AHL.

In other news: We can't buy out Franzen until next year, and if we do, it will be costly not in actual dollar amount but in salary cap dollars because of the nature of his front loaded contract.
If we trade Franzen and he decides to retire, we will be hit with costly recapture salary cap dollars. If we waive Franzen and he is claimed we are still on the hook for recapture dollars if he does not finish out his contract. If we waive him and he goes down to GR, we'll garner little savings.
I would post the numbers, but most of you Franzen haters didn't even read this post... let alone care about sound reasoning when it comes to the player and his potential.
His potential, even as a thirteenth forward often scratched -- much like Weiss who's cap hit was more or Cleary, who clearly isn't an NHL caliber player, is worth more than any of the savings we'd get from any of the awful options listed above. So he doesn't play 82 games and put up the numbers he once did... but if he can slot in for injuries, chip in some goals here and there, get on a streak and dominate.
Gee. All the clusterf*** of cap woes above and his possible potential I don't know why I'd want to dump him in the bin.
Also, when the pro-Franzen s***-storm happens, I'm not buying an umbrella. I'll be like Tim Robbins in Shawshank Redemption after he crawls through the sewage tunnel, raising his arms to the sky with the rain pouring down -- except the exact opposite because I'm all clean and nothing but s*** is raining down. Sweet glorious Franzen s***! Still gonna welcome it like SWEET FREEDOM!

When Franzen floods Detroit with sick goals that umbrella won't help you anyway.

What happened to everyone being so concerned about his health and well-being? You'd think people would be rejoicing at the sign that he may play again after how somber it was around here.

I was thinking more like the scene in the movie Castaway. Tom Hanks throws away the volleyball and yells "I'm sorry Wilson, I'm sorry!" In my case if #93 comes back and scores 20-25 goals, I will yell "I'm sorry Franzen! I'm sorry!"

You know when an unattractive man/woman asks if they're ugly, and you tell them they're not? You tell them that they've got a great personality, and that anyone would be lucky to have them ...and then they ask you out.

I'm guessing that's kind of what the Franzen situation is like for a lot of Detroit fans.

It's like when your trying to go play street hockey with the boys and your mom tells you to bring your little brother, and you cry and moan because you don't want to bring him. He's not even bad at a street ball, he's just your dorky little brother and you don't want him around.

Then one day your going to a nearby parking lot to take slapshots at parked cars and your mom says "bring your little brother with you". But your brother says he doesn't feel well. So you tell him he better stay in and get some rest and that you hope he feels better... but secretly you'd wish he'd stay sick forever.
