This whole thread is awesome. Gonna break out the championship DVD's soon and watch em again for the nostalgia. I still get goosebumps when D-Mac makes swiss cheese out of Janne Ninama (f the spelling)

Also, crazy to anyone else that Tomas Sandstrom of all guys was traded here and got to ride shotgun with Yzerman on route to a cup run? Played great for the Kings when they lost to MTL in 93, but doesn't score a goal in 20 games with us (assisted on the cup winner though, funnily enough). Crazy.

To me that would be an interesting interview to read. Sandy got a short glimpse of playing on one of the best teams of all time. Wonder what it was like for him playing next to Yzerman for that run being sort of an outsider.

The dude is an interesting case. He played with Gretzky, Lemieux and Yzerman. I wouldn't call him anything more than a 2nd liner, at best, and he played with 3 of the best centers EVER. Icing on the cake being he also played on one of the best teams ever (not quite 02) but jesus, Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanny, Lidstrom, Murphy, Vladdy, etc.

Ward once said that he thought his name was F--kward for awhile because Bowman always said things like F Ward, are you stupid?

It's funny because Bowman told Ward at the handshake line in the 2002 SCF that he was retiring. Ward should have said, "Good f***ing riddance old man!"

Everyone in here hating on Abby, Holmer, McCarty and such. It's safe to say we as fans dont evaluate some of the peripheral top 2 lines guys the way management does... Abby and McCarty are for sure heart and soul guys on their teams, just look how the rest of the team lights up when they score a goal, also abby was a captain  for some US international team so it's not just Detroit management that sees it.

On the other hand guys like Holmer and Cleary got rewarded with contracts until they were like 90 because they did a job no one else wanted and a job guys like pav and Z couldn't have done.

I'm not saying it always made sense to me but the fact that it was consistent lends itself toward there being a method to the madness.

Also I know it's been mentioned but the old NHL for sure favored size. Everyone seemingly had a Tkachuk or Lapointe on their top lines.

Hexstall's tears sustain me to this day. It was the game-winning goal if I recall correctly. Been a while.

Hextall sucked in that series, especially Game 3. Garth Snow played Game 2, he started more games in that postseason than Hextall but couldn't do much against Detroit either. I remember winning quite a bit of money off bets after that series from people who thought Philly was gonna smash Detroit with the LOD line. That line wasn't even a factor.
