DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted August 1, 2015 It doesn't matter. 2nd goomba was a great leader and therefore will always be better.
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted August 1, 2015 Toews has 1 PPG season in the lockout year, how does he warrant 10.8 million again? Oh right, he's a "great leader" blah blah blah so he gets an extra 2.8 million. Crosby Malkin Ovechkin Tavares Giroux 5 players right there that are better then Toews. He had 62 points the year before that.. Yeah, the Toews/Kane contract was ridic but then again it wasn't like Chicago was going to let them walk. My personal top 5 would be: Crosby Stamkos Ovetchkin Tavares Datsyuk (if healthy) In no particular order. And yes Datsyuk. He is still a PPG player and can still do it all when needed and he's still incredible on faceoffs/takeaways. I think Zetterberg is better than Claude Girioux and Toews if healthy. I think this past season was an outlier for him. I might add Malkin into top five and swap out Datsyuk but it was be a toss up between the two seeing as tho neither had the best seasons this past year. 2 jimmyemeryhunter and DatsyukianDekes reacted to this
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted August 1, 2015 Malkin had 1 outstanding season, sadly against us but OV really ? Yeah guy is a great scorer probably one of the best ever but he isn't anywhere close to the terms of leadership and iron will Toews has. Toews may not be elite at one thing but he is very good at almost everything, which makes him perfect player in almost every situation. I wouldn't break a sweat having him out in the last minute of the game but I would if OV was out there, he just doesn't know how to play defense which is okay not everyone can be a perfect two way player. Fact - Henrik Zetterberg is a better leader and has just as much if not more will than Toews. Both on and especially off the ice. Look up Zetterberg foundation - schools and clean water overseas in ethiopia and Nepal? I mean I know a lot of NHL players do charity work but international contributions at this level is a pretty intense effort. And he's been doing it for years. Toews complains and whines on ice occasionally. Z NEVER complains. Both are leaders by example. Toews is more vocal but it's easier to be when your first language is the one the league communicates in. The big picture im trying to pull out is; I wouldn't look at leadership as the defining factor on these top players - just pure skill. Toews doesn't make the cut imo for top 3 or even top 5 if we look at skill. I'd put him at 7ish
PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted August 1, 2015 (edited) How can the league expect teams like Florida and Phoenix to compete when there's contracts like this going around? Its nuts. I know i'm banging the same old drum, and I know its both players and owners and GMs driving up salaries, but I still don't think anyone is worth that, and we're headed for another lockout and possibly another rollback of salaries. This will only end when the league implements a rule unlinking the cap from league revenues. Its murder.... There's a certain very large amount of money that's profited from the NHL. If you're against these large salaries and think they should be rolled back, then you're for larger more ridiculous amounts to go to owners. Salaries need to keep going up as long as profits are. The Game makes ridiculous amounts of money so give it to those most responsible. If florida and pheonix can't compete it's because their teams don't generate enough profit in their area. Move the teams to places where they will. This is too much for Voracek, but only a bit I think. SInce 2012-13 he's had the 3rd most point for a winger behind OV and Kessel (from TSn). But nowhere near the goals - I would think 7.25-75 would make sense Edited August 1, 2015 by PavelValerievichDatsyuk
lomekian 201 Report post Posted August 3, 2015 Voracek has been worth that money for 2 years but it's a risky contract. That said the game he plays shouldn't drop off too much given his style and age. As for OV vs Toews, no contest. The Russian is probably one of the top 5 goal scorers of the last 40 years. Toews might just be in the top 5 2 way centres of the last decade. On a better built team OV would have the hardware for sure. Imagine him on dats wing from his draft date onwards.... Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) On top of his offensive prowess, Voracek could probably take any Wing in a scrap: Edited August 3, 2015 by Bring Back The Bruise Bros
