nyqvististhefuture 1,002 Report post Posted December 3, 2015 Again ... Thanks for the info , watched about 4-6 games but just of much hockey on and other stuff so hard to watch every game Sucks for frk , got a ton of promising kids coming so not a huge loss but had hopes for him, could of been used in a trade deal for something ... Oh we'll Great news on sproul , nice to see him playing well , still only 22?23? And defensemen take longer to develope so still hoping he's a top 4 and ppl quarterback. Personally for me I think we'd be way better right now if ouellet marchenko and possibly Jensen were up right now so you don't have to sell me on them Smith and kindl don't have a longterm future in detroit(my opinion) so I'd much rather see Jensen get in some games ,cause I'm pretty sure ouellet will be here full time next season, marchenko seems to be liked here and plays a save 2 way game Unfortunetly of the 4 I see Jensen being gone .... Smith kindl Quincey for ouellet marchenko sproul? Kids need to get in some games now or it could be ugly next season if we have 3-4 rookies in the lineup in the backend at the same time

jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) Wow man. He's even producing like a fourth liner in the AHL, Hahaha. Has he been playing with decent line mates? Or is he on a veteran bottom 6 line getting minuscule ice time or something? Edited December 7, 2015 by jimmyemeryhunter
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 7, 2015 Cleary is getting 3rd line minutes, time on the penalty kill and no power-play time, exactly the way he should be being utilized. He started out playing on a line with Zengerle and Campbell but has recently been playing with Nosek and Bertuzzi. He hasn't been playing great by any stretch but hasn't played nearly as bad as some people would make it seem. It blows my mind how much people want to hate on Dan Cleary, I just don't get it... He has a goal and three assists in 13 games, which really isn't that awful for a 36 year old that has had some major injury issues over the past few years. So why not s*** on Hoggan? A guy that is the same age, the captain of the team, and has one goal and zero assist in 19 games, and is a -3 compared to Cleary's -1... Cleary is down there for one reason, and that is to help "coach" all these kids, and from everything I've heard, he is doing just that. 1 jimmyemeryhunter reacted to this

Cleary is an NHL vet with over 1000 games to his name and 400+ points. He should not even be in the minors, he should have retired gracefully and maybe gone down to Van Andel as a member of the coaching staff off the ice. No one is dissing him just the way that the whole saga was dealt with be Kenny and Cleary. 1 jimmyemeryhunter reacted to this
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 11, 2015 If Cleary still wants to play the game, and is offered another contract, he should absolutely be able to play without fans insisting that "he shouldn't be playing"... I bet some would b**** if Cleary was "taking up a roster spot" in Toledo... Holland offered the guy a contract that was by all intents and purposes structured for the AHL, if Cleary still wants to play, who are you to say he shouldn't?... 2 kickazz and jimmyemeryhunter reacted to this
jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted December 11, 2015 I'm actually fine with him in grand rapids, the only players he's pushing down to Toledo are ones that I don't see having a future here anyway. As much as I'd like Frk to get going and prove not to be a bust, its his own fault if he doesn't beat out someone else.(not specific to Frk, any player who cleary is "keeping off the griffs rosters") We have a lot of good prospects not in the NHL still, but the cabinet is nowhere near as full as it was three years ago. (Aside from the defense, which I'm hoping the new coach will be able to turn a few into gold) The vets down in grand rapids are great AHL vets, but we don't stock the team full of them. We use grand rapids as a development stop for the NHL, so having someone who has succeeded in the NHL teaching them, would seem to be a better choice than AHL lifers.(important as they may be) I was genuinely asking for what's going on him with down there, not trying to sh*t on him, so thanks for the info Andy and krsmith. Also, just fwiw, I wish he would have retired before this year, because its painful to watch injuries/decline in play push him to where he's at, but if he wants to keep playing hockey, more power to him. His rep has just taken a huge hit after those "handshake agreement" contracts, which is sad to see. He was a warrior for us, and from all accounts a generally good guy off the ice.(to fans, not just his locker room presence) 2 krsmith17 and PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this
