I really wish they would turn the Joe space into a public space/park. I think it would do a lot for the city - many great cities have done this (Chicago as the most extreme example, but that came about after the fire). Detroit has essentially walled off the river front with the Ren Cen, Cobo, Joe... while the few parks on the water have always been the best places (Hart Plaza, Chene Park).

Literally the worst name for an arena right now. I thought Amalie arena was bad. Named after oil. But I can see the commercials now: Arena! Rena! Immediately makes me think of fight club: "When deep space exploration ramps up, it'll be the corporations that name everything, the IBM Stellar Sphere, the Microsoft Galaxy, Planet Starbucks."

Arena! Arena!

I wanted it to be Gordie Howe Center, so we could all go to The Gordie for games... oh well

Stop everything ... rather stay at the Joe if it is going to be named that.

It's almost comical all those new arenas are over the top built, expensive as hell but lack soul, history and of course atmosphere

soo disappointed right now what in the name of is happening to this franchise? whatever the case it's not good

What's next free smartphones and WiFi in the arena? we are talking about the Red Wings here an original 6 team celebrate and embrace it instead of selling out like all the other teams

Though I've loved going to the Joe, the concourse had all the soul and atmosphere of a parking garage. I think the Joe was objectively a pretty crappy arena: inconvenient parking, trough bathrooms, UGLY from the outside, the inconvenient staircase entrance on one side, those shady portal walkways to get to the rink (went there with my Grandpa and he had trouble with the all the walking it took to get there), in a desolate part of town (maybe too harsh, but little is around it and it isn't a warm feeling part of town).

People learn to love those dingy aspects and call them character, but it was time for a change. History comes with time passing. I'm sure The Joe was criticized for it's modern design at some point.

It seems as if the only thing about an arena Wings fans care about is the name of it. I'm glad all I give a crap about is the experience I have while I'm there.

I also think the LCA is a pretty decent nickname for the place. Not the end of the world, as some make it seem.

The whole thing reminds me of when a website like Facebook changes. Everyone flips out, complains for a week, then forgets about it. Come puck drop in October nobody will care any more.
