Definitely a new age of Wings Hockey

Kyle over at wingingitinmotown.com says this is the first time the wings have openly hired a director of analytics

But you can't score goals or win fights with maths. You need good ol truculence and eyebalzz

One has to wonder why it took so long? Why didn't we have a guy like this before now? Holland's usually ahead of the curve. My knee jerk reaction is to assume that Babcock didn't care about it. But I don't know, and can't substantiate that at all. Just seems like the same old timey mentality that made him "not care about shootouts" might also apply here.

Negative. Of course, you can. Not letteraly though, but math can definitely help doing that.

I wish this site had a sarcasm button. I like the analytical part of the game too, I may not always fully understand it but I do think it is a very useful tool

I'm pretty sure that's inaccurate, at least a bit. Babs was very happy last summer when we got an analytics guy, so much so he let him do quite a bit and eventually took him go to Toronto with him. Guy even got to pick our shootout guys too

There was a few articles last year with Babcock saying that he was really interested in using analytics. I think it was around the draft.
