Moving Jimmy Howard

Lets not forget how Jimmy injured his groin in the first place...

https://youtu.be/Yg4iA46DA2M

He literally has a guy on either side to pass the puck to... and he leaves it behind the net for the opposition to pick up. Look at his indecision of what to do with the puck right before he's like "f*** it, I'll just leave it here"

You don't get that kind of dumbf***ery from Mrazek

How many bad pass goals did Jim end up racking up this season anyway?

I don't know, you guys threw a fit about keeping track of them. So I didn't.

But there was at least one. One that ended up derailing his "All Star" season.

Edit: And I'll say it again, it was meant mostly as a joke a la Little Big League "That's the 14th one run game for the Tigers this year. Tops for any team north of the mason-dixon line whose home games are not played in a dome!"

I'm not advocating trading Jimmy this season. He still has value on this team right now. Mrazek is the better goalie and should be the starter. Mrazek's ability to play the puck alone makes him better. Am I the only one here who sees how much better the defenseman are when Mrazek is in net? It's like having a third dman back at all times. Is there anything Howard does better than Mrazek? What am I missing here? When did Jimmy Howard become this great goalie? We're going to hold Mrazek's inexperience against him? Are Red Wings fans so used to average goaltending that we now are unable to recognize a blue chip talent in goal? I just shake my head. Lol I don't understand what Howard has done to deserve such blind support. I like Jimmy. I do. I've been hoping for years he would be a star goalie. He isn't. His ceiling has been achieved already. He is still an NHL goalie. Mrazek has a much higher talent level. He Will only get better. I look forward to seeing this. Is this how it will be here? Each time Mrazek gets scored on or dare I say it, lose a game, are we going to want to run him out if town like Tim Chevaldae? Why does Mrazek get no credit and Howard gets no blame? Seriously, I don't get it. Its like most here want to forget Jimmys awful play after his injury and give him a do over. If it were not for Mrazek, the Wings would not even have made the playoffs last season. But heY Jimmy Howard is the man right? Those first few months he was better than Carey Price! Lol

I'm seeing it. His puck handling is probably one of his top 3 attributes. It's totally changed the game for our defenders.

You can see in that clip that both defenders were there in position to take a pass (or at the very least tie it up along the boards, while Howie got back into position), Howard picks his head up to take a look, gave the body language that he was going to move it, then almost immediately he got unsure of himself or something and left it there for the other team.

There's no point to sticking with Howard for the sole sake of staying with the familiar. He's already reached his peak, he's not going to get any better than what his best already is (which I admit would be fine if we had a team in front of him like '02 or '08, but we don't)

It's so obvious isn't it? Mainly because Mrazek is so confident playing the puck at all times. He wants to play the puck. Jimmy doesn't. Mrazek always makes the right decision with the puck. Howard usually gives it away. Remember the giveaway versus Boston in the playoffs? What a gift that was. All goalies will make mistakes every now and then and turn the puck over. But Jimmy does it all the time. He really has no idea what to do when he has the puck. With our defenseman, we need all the help we can get in getting the puck out of our own zone. Our strength is our talented group of forwards . Mrazek gets the puck to our dmen so they can get it to guys like Tats, Dats, Gus and Hank. We spend less time chasing the other team and more time playing our puck possession skill game.

HAHA yeah he came way out of the net, shot it right into our defensemsan's shin pads where it promptly bounced right to that kid (who is from Marquette!) and he had a wide open net. Just killed out momentum after we had no business being up 1-0 in the series (and yeah i'm sure he did indeed play well and may have played a large role in stealing the first game...)

This was a game soon after he had been watching Petr playing the puck. Jimmy says to the media, "I like how he just goes out and does it." So he thinks HE can just go out and do it!

First of all, No he doesn't just go and do it, he's been practicing for years how to do it. Second, the playoffs probably aren't the time to start ******* around with that kind of s*** if you're not comfortable with it. Third, don't try to pass the blame away by saying "Yeah, the video guy said he looked and it and the puck was kinda on edge and that's why it took off on me."

I think it's pretty ridiculous people here have forgotten how great Jimmy was before his injury. He was one of the best goalies in the league for a long stretch of the season and most likely would have been a vezina candidate.

Having said that, I would welcome some change in goal. Jimmy's stick handling and quite a few head scratching moments kind of infuriate me. Mrazek deserves a big chunk of games to develop.

No way Holland is dumb enough to dump Jimmy and go with an unproven goalie. Probably won't do it next year either. Only way is it if is a home run deal and we get a capable backup some other way

$5 says that most of the same people insisting that Mrazek is better will be complaining about him not being a "real" #1 in 2 years or less.

Potential just means a guy might be really good. It's meaningless until it's reached, and Mrazek still has a lot to prove.

It's like some people here would have passed on the elite players in the league because at one time they were unproven rookies who just had "meaningless potential".

And it's like some people don't realize that keeping Jimmy means that this team begins the 15-16 season with what will most likely be a very good goalie tandem. But hell, let's nueter that option right off the bat because who'd want that kind of stability?

The same people complaining about how inconsistent Mrazek is will be the same ones jumping on his bandwagon when he wins most of his games including ones where the team is outplayed. I can play this game too.

Oh who would want Mrazek? All star Jimmy time!

You mean Mrazek will get the praise he deserves only after he earns it? Seems fair to me.

It's kind of weird how personal some of you guys make it with the players.

Whether it's Howard or Franzen or Quincey.

When they wear the winged wheel I will always cheer and hope for them to do well.

I have a feeling this stupid goalie flame war is going to carry into every GDT all season long. And frankly that's a shame.

Daigle, Stefan, Brendl, Dipietro, Lawton, Jessiman, Scissons, Volchkov, Filatov, Montoya, Wickenheiser, Brule, Bonsignore, etc....

I bet some teams wish they could go back to that "one time" these guys were unproven rookies and make a different decision

We should just play 30 year olds with proven track records and have no players on the team who are unproven. Trade all our draft picks too. We don't need those guys. They haven't proven anything.

It's about picking a side and then saying "See, I was right!!! I know all about the hockeys!!1111!!"

It's also a bit OCD.

Anyway, I'm with you. It's going to be awesome to have two capable goalies this year. Especially for the 7 back-to-back games early on. Also, it will be refreshing to see the tandem get managed propertly by Blashill. I think we can all agree that handling goalies was not one of Bacock's more potent skills.
