Good salary cap and stat websites? (Capgeek replacements)

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

With Capgeek shut down (RIP Matt), I figured I'd post some replacement websites I found and would like to hear other good sites people use in the absence of the brilliant one that was Capgeek.

The two decent ones I know of are:

nhlnumbers.com

www.hockeyscap.com

It might be good to also compile people's favorite stat sites in general. I know there's more cropping up with the increasing popularity of advanced stats.

It's think it's pretty hard for us to judge which one is correct or reliable. Hockey's cap says we're 964,545 over the cap. General Fanager says we have 375,457 cap space left and Nhlnumbers say we have 385,000 under the cap. I wonder what's up with the discrepancy.

I like the General Fanager's about page, though. They basically say they loved Capgeek and trying to carry on for them and they include links to a few cancer organizations.

Edit: Got to the bottom of it: hockey's cap includes ferrarro while the others don't. nhlnumbers includes Lashoff while the others don't. There might be a couple differences that I didn't catch.

Cap Friendly uses 16 forwards, including Ferraro/Andersson and Miele.

Hockey's Cap uses 15 forwards, including Ferraro/Andersson.

General Fanager uses 14 forwards (no Ferraro), but it doesn't account for the $740,000 in carryover overage bonus money.

Hockey's Cap likely has the most accurate number, IMO. Detroit has to pay that carryover money, as far as I know. Of course, Detroit's going to start the year with Datsyuk on LTIR, so...

Either way, Hockey's Cap is likely only off by 815K (Andersson) or 600K (Ferraro), depending on who you think will eventually get sent down. That's just my take, anyway.
