Need a little Abdelkader help please

Ladies and gents, I am about to buy my girlfriend her first Jersey. I've been trying to get her to pick a player, and she is really adamant about getting Abdelkader. Great, I love him, but I don't want to spend the 180$ on a jersey for a guy who might not be with the team next year.

I've been trying to talk to her about getting Dekeyser, or Nyquist or Sheahan just because I figure they are guaranteed to be on the team longer. She really wants number 8 though.

So my question, what are the odds he resigns? If he doesn't does it really matter? Is it considered poor to wear a jersey for a guy not on the team anymore?

Thanks any feedback welcome. Also any recomendations on websites to order from?

Nothing wrong with wearing the jersey of an ex-Wing. I still wear my Cujo jersey. I actually bought it after he left Detroit because it was on clearance. lol

But ya, like others have already said, Abby isn't going anywhere. I'm sure he'll be resigned to a long term deal before seasons end.

Without Abdelkader , Datsyuk and Zetterberg would not be able to play on a line together as he is our best power forward. The organization prefers them to play together so I'm assuming he sticks around for a while, just to have that option.

Plus he's a michigan native, doubt he'd want to leave.

If anvilkrater doesn't sign for less than 3.5, I'd be shocked, SHOCKED.

Speaking of amoebasadyr, you should use one of the many, hilarious takes on his last name that we've offered on this site.

The scouring of gdt is in order, but there's at least four people I know who would appreciate this, your girlfriends gratitude not withstanding.

Why are you trying to talk her out of something she wants? You're saying the money whether its a Abby, Datsyuk, or Gordy Howe sweater. It's a sunk cost. So what difference does it make?

Seems like you don't want her to get an Abby jersey because YOU don't want one. Which defeats the point of giving someone a gift.

Teachable moment. Number 16. Tell her the beautiful and horrible story about how we could have watched Lidstrom and Vlad for 20 years. Polar opposite ways to play the same position perfectly. Since they can't hang 16 from the rafters, I'm glad that they acquiesce and don't let anyone wear it. Godspeed Kostantinov.

Little harsh. Pretty sure he just wants to get her the right Jersey and not the one that gets stored in the back of the closet a month later. My buddy got a Schenn jersey right before they traded him and I haven't seen him wear it since... then he got a Lupul.... he aslo has a raptors jersey with his own name on it I found.... some people don't make the best decisions. Although for her I'm sure it will be fine.

There's nothing wrong with being concerned for someones sweater choice. You have to save some of these girls from themselves.

Ya I don't know why you would be so adamant about her not getting Abby. I bought my gf a franzen Jersey cause he's her favourite, even though he very well could be concussed into retirement soon, it's what she wanted.

I'm not, I'm definitely getting one now that he seems more likely to stay on the team. I'm new to the hockey thing, wasn't sure if it's considered bad taste to have someones jersey if they have left the team, and if she would want to wear it if he played for someone else like Boston (shudder).

And I'm not made of money, the cheapest is around 175$ before shipping, it's a big commitment. Besides she doesn't know that much about hockey, the main reason she wants him is because I sang his praises so much last year.

But thanks for everyone's input.

'Tis true, 'tis true. I wasted my money on a Kronwall, whilst my dear old Dad (may he rest in peace) invested in a Lang. Should have listened to Dad like a good girl and gotten myself a Cleary like he said. That one will never be obsolete.
