As always if something like this happens: mad respect great gesture.

Jeremy Jacobs donated 30 million too

“This is my hometown. We’ve got several thousand employees in the greater Western New York area. This is an investment in their quality of life. And it’s a statement of them, collectively,” Jacobs said in an interview in his KeyCenter office downtown. “The money that it took to do this was money that was earned here, in one form or another, by the associates here. It couldn’t have been done without their hard work.”

Mad respect to both of them

I understand the philosophy, but a children's hospital just received ten million dollars, I don't care if he gets a banner on the moon saying what he did, it's a good thing.

Agreed, plus in todays day and age if someone donates 10million, I feel like the word will somehow get out.

I dont think PK did this for PR purposes, he could have donated 5million and received the same about of fan fair.

I think it many situations people and/or businesses donate because it does make them feel good AND it's good PR. I don't think its one or the other. I also don't think that if PR is partially on their mind it takes away from the act or diminishes anything. I think the stigma comes from a perception that rich people JUST donate for PR and don't give a crap about the cause which I'm sure is the case sometimes, but not all the time.

When you donate 10million, you deserve praise.

I'm more partial to anonymous donations.

Well the next time that you donate 10 million dollars to charity, you can do it any way you choose. In the meantime, an extraordinary human being did something incredibly selfless for his community and he deserves his 15 minutes of praise, whether that was his intention or not. How dare you try to slight him in any way for what he's done, what a pos you must be.

The money is going to be donated over a period of 7 years by him and his "foundation". He's not giving one lump sum. If he's that insecure that he needs his name on a building to make him feel good about himself, so be it.

With that much money there will bea foundation that allocates the money. If you read the article, part of it goes to help families financially while their child is in care. Obviously that's given over a long period of time. Otherwise, you give the first 20 families a huge amount as some sort of lottery?

As a side comment, I benefited in some medical care that I received due to a donation by Saku koivu. It's hard to understand the cynicism you're expressing when you've been in touch the effects of such a gift. These players are given a lot by the community and it's great to see them give back. PK has gone above and beyond here.

Edit: Also, There will be a huge number of families that will be helped out. The may have been forced into economic hardship due to the disease or maybe this allows them to take off time from work so that they can be with their child's treatment. If I were in their situation, I'd definitely want to know who to thank.

I'm confused, are we saying that PK Subban pledged 10 million dollars to charity because he's insecure?

Seems like being rich, famous, and a professional athlete would take care of that problem. Guess not. Maybe he should just bang every woman (or man) on Montreal. Probably easier for him than giving away 10 million.

Yeah I'm with you, it's a great thing to do. The only thing I don't like about these sorts of things is that a celebrity/millionaire has to give money to help a hospital - it should be a given that hospitals and schools provide for everyone without philanthropic donations. Unfortunately that can't/doesn't happen. So props to him.

I'm saying plenty of celebrities and athletes give generously of their time and money and don't feel the need to hold a press conference to bask in the adulation of their own greatness. The money it cost to name the atrium after himself probably would have paid for a lot of treatment or housing for a family with a sick child.

Most "foundations" like his do fundraisers to fund "charitable" contributions such as this. Which isn't to say it's a bad thing, but it isn't likely that PK himself is contributing the entire amount out of his pocket.

Didn't you know it's more important to pay a boatload of money for over the top arenas so billionaires can "afford" them and won't relocate a team, instead of giving it to firefighters, police, hospitals and educational stations such as collegues.
