rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) Oh hey, another guy with only a year left on his deal. Methinks the Leafs are hoping he plays well enough to ship him out for a decent draft pick at the deadline. Much like half of their roster. kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 Yeah, but why trade for a guy to do that for when there are a million guys who wouldn't cost you any assets to acquire. I think they'll plan on keeping Grabner. He's Babs' new Helm.

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 smart trade for the Leafs they get some space in terms of contract and a speedy winger. If Grabner plays well he'll get a better contract and the Leafs will ship him out for a pick.
e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) Sung to the melody of that Door's ditty: ...5 for 1 baby, 1 for 5, No one here* gets out alive... *Toronto 5 prospects for Grabs. FIVE. They must really have faith in their previous drafting capabilities. Edited September 17, 2015 by e_prime 1 PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this
PavelValerievichDatsyuk 1,935 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 Haven't followed Grabner. Can someone tell me why he only played 34 games last year? Maybe Babs' and Shanny are looking for a reclamation project and are looking at that 34 goal 10-11 season. Seems like a good move for them since there's little risk since those prospects don't sound like much to me (though that just could be limited knowledge on my part). e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) Injuries. Tumbled down the depth chart. Healthy scratch as other players stepped up while he was out. Here's good analysis of both Grabs and the prospects the Isles just nabbed up. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/maple-leafs-land-michael-grabner-from-isles-for-a-boatload-of-contractser-prospects/ Edited September 17, 2015 by e_prime 1 PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) Nylander is a cocky undersized but very talented kid. Marner will need to add some serious muscle and bulk up a lot otherwise guys like Weber, Chara would absolutely kill him with a check. panik so far has proven way more than Jurco but yeah the anti Babcock crowd has to bring him up of course. The 2012 draft so far has been a disaster for the wings Edited September 18, 2015 by frankgrimes
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted September 18, 2015 How has Panik proven "way more" than Jurco? Panik has 39 points in 151 games (0.258 points per game) and Jurco has 33 points in 99 games (0.333 points per game). So other than Panik being older and more experienced, Jurco is by far the better player with much higher potential in my opinion. You realize that Panik was a Lightning cast off, and was claimed off waivers by one of the worst teams in the league... 2 DatsyukianDekes and TheXym reacted to this
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted September 18, 2015 I know that and for a cast off he has developed very well. Jurco may use more potential but he has yet to put it. Panik will give you an honest effort every shift although the Penguins overpaid tremendously for him with a first rounder.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted September 18, 2015 The kid is 22 years old, he needs more than one full season to fulfill that potential... Penguins? Overpaid? First rounder? Who exactly are you talking about here?...
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted September 18, 2015 Forget it mixed up Panik and Vinnik. just like in Toronto this will be a clean slate chance for everyone but I'm very sure guys like Pulkinnen, Jurco won't be wings next fall of they don't step up their game simple as that.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted September 18, 2015 Step up their game? Frank, you could make that argument for players that have been in the league a couple years like Nyquist or Tatar, if they were having subpar seasons, or even Smith or Kindl if they don't show they belong, but not two guys that have barely gotten a shot. There is no chance that either Jurco or Pulkkinen are given up on this early in their careers, unless they completely fall flat (which I doubt) or someone comes calling specifically about them and they make an offer Kenny can't refuse (which I doubt)... 1 DatsyukianDekes reacted to this

The 2012 draft so far has been a disaster for the wings You mean like how you always used to say that Subban was "cocky"? Or like how Chara and Weber absolutely kill Johnny Gaudrea because he's so small? Do you ever get tired of just repeating the same tropes over and over again or is that half the fun?
