Leafs Announcers Will No Longer Travel With the Team

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

TML GM Lou Lamoriello has put the announcers on the no-fly list for the Leafs. They will call away games from a monitor. This will save approximately $200,000 per season. The team is owned by Rogers and Bell, who split the radio rights. It's been suggested the team could pay for the travel, but the money would still be coming out of their pocket, so I'm not sure that will happen.

I'd be super pissed if I didn't get my Ken Daniels for away games.

How much is Leafs Nation willing to put up with? How much goodwill has hiring Babcock earned them? And how long do you think it will be before LN finally declares they're mad as hell and they won't take it anymore?

Here's a good article from the Sun (!) explaining well how I felt about it, but it seems this is now a non-issue according to Joe Bowen's (the announcer) Twitter:

After some great conversations today with all parties we are back on the road baby!#TrainsPlanes&Automobiles #LetsGetThisSeasonStarted

Once I get confirmation and details from another source, I will post if someone else doesn't get to it first.

I'm a bit confused. Are they not calling away games? (ie. your Ken Daniels example). Or are they calling them, just not live in the building? (ie. the first part I bolded).

How long? As long as Detroit fans still attend and watch Lions games.

Everyone here is focused on the angle that they were somehow attacking the announcers or ruining Leafs nation. No one here raised an eyebrow that they were trying to cut a mere $200,000 by doing this? Aren't they the wealthiest franchise in the league?

the first post addresses that, then a couple posts later rivalred says basically that, see:

Have to pay for Babcocks 50 million one way or another

Torontos finest lol

Its not that no ones raising an eyebrow at it, but it hasn't been commented on much because the situation was already figured Out, and their broadcast will be going forward as it was previously

See, everything is back to normal. So we doing have to get upset at them for being stingy with their copious amounts of money. Edited by jimmyemeryhunter
