Why would it have to be a "contending team" that acquires Howard? There are plenty of teams that have weak goaltending, and there are plenty of teams that could use a veteran goaltender like Howard. He certainly isn't untradeable like some seem to be suggesting...

What we really need to do is get Jimmy Williams back.. the Blackhawks can't score on Jimmy Williams! :P

It does seem that mrazek has earned more starting time.. But I doubt they cut Howard out completely. Maybe something like a 70-30 ish split for the time being. It'll be interesting to see what deal Howard is involved in whenever he ends up being traded. My hope is that we could package him up and somehow snag a young d man out of Winnipeg but that might mostly be wishful thinking at this point.

Rather than hope they go away from Howard completely, Mrazek fans should hope that the split time continues and both goalies shine to improve Howard's trade value. It's only a matter of time until he's traded, not a matter of his performance (assuming mrazek keeps improving, which seems pretty safe).

We've all been hoping Jimmy could outplay the other goalie since the game 7 ot loss to the blackhawks in 2013. That game wrecked Howard. He has been in decline since. No trade value left. I would say there is a possibility another team would pick him up if we ate 2-3 mil of his salaey each year. And the Wings should do it if given the chance. It's a pretty sad situation for all involved. Our gm really blew it on this one.

There's no trade market for highly paid goalies. There's very little trade market for any goalies these days. I don't see someone offering anything of value for Howard even if we eat a big chunk of contract. We should get used to the idea he will be an expensive backup for the next three years (or however much contract he has left).

Weren't around six or seven goalies traded just this past off season? I'd agree about highly paid goalies but there is definitely a trade market for goalies.. Howard shouldn't be too hard to trade while retaining salary.

Goalies traded in 2015-16 (since end of last season):

Scrivens

Poulin

Gibson

Nilsson

Copley

Hellberg

Jones (twice)

Raanta

Khudobin

Talbot

rights to Niemi

Lack

Lehner

Maybe four or five whose first names most of us would know. Not much received in exchange altho Lehner (with Legwand) yielded a first-rounder (!). Jones with a pick and a player yielded Lucic. Then Jones went for a first. Talbot yielded a second, third and seventh. Every other deal was who for who. So I stand corrected, there is some market for goalies. But I don't see Howard being of much interest to anyone. Even if we ate $3M per year, he has never won anything.

Most of these guys had really low contract values or short terms. I see Howard's contract as a big noose around our neck.

NTC. He can block crap teams

He can block "10" crap teams. If he sees himself getting less and less starts, I can't see him trying to block a team like Buffalo for example. He could definitely challenge Johnson for the starting role there, they are a team on the rise, and he'd be back in the states, somewhat close to his hometown. There are always options...

Yeah, points taken. I'm not saying we'd get a huge return or anything but there is definitely a market for goalies.. Also, I don't think the rest of the league thinks Howard is as bad as wings fans think; I could be wrong though I guess.

I did forget about his limited ntc though so that complicates things a little.. but I'd think he'll want to start somewhere rather than backup here. We'll see.

Nope. That's right on point.

For reference, fans thought Chris Osgood sucked. Then he helped drag the Islanders and the Blues into the playoffs. Anyone that thinks Howard couldn't do something similar is crazy.

Buffalo sounds like a great place for Jimmy.

"I've been sayin' it. I've been sayin' it for ten damn years. Ain't I been sayin' it, Miguel? Yeah, I've been sayin' it." - Russel Case (Independence Day)

"Mrazek, uh, finds a way" - Ian Malcom/Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park)

I hate to say it but damnit, I'm going to. Good Bye Howard Apologists!!!!! All last year I kept saying how they should start getting Mrazek in a position to take over the starting job soon, especially with the way Howard was struggling. And all last year I got s*** on by almost everybody.

"He doesn't have any experience!"

"You just like him cuz he's new and shiny. Once he starts struggling you'll be calling for McCullom!"

"Blah Blah Howard Blah Blah...."

NO. I liked him because he was clearly better than Howard. Better agility and quickness, better stick handling, better positioning, better mental tougness, ect...

I'm just waiting to see how people react when Mrazek has a bad stretch.

Well, I'll probably give him a pass. Everybody has a bad night or two. But Mrazek has shown that he has a short memory when it comes to that and can move on quickly. He's still young, still improving. And frankly he's just better. When you're better you have a longer leash. (Think Brett Favre. Threw a ton of interceptions. But he was an elite quarterback so you're more willing to overlook that in a way you wouldn't if it was an average quarterback. And the style of play that caused him to throw so many interceptions is what caused him to be one of the best in the game).

Jimmy is still a good goalie. Probably the best backup goalie in the league. I still hope he gets out of this funk he's been in and will cheer for for him when he does play. But Mrazek seems to have taken the starting job for good. Having a goalie tandem of Mrazek/Howard is a 'good problem' to have. Whichever way Blashill splits the starts from here on out is fine with me.

Who are the people/conversations that you are bragging about being right to? From what I remember, you've argued with people about how bad you thought Howard was. I don't think anyone around here has been anti-Mrazek. I can't think of anyone who has said that Howard should be playing over Mrazek - just a bunch who like the tandem.

But, anyway, Mrazek is looking great. With Larkin, DK, Mrazek, possibly include Tat/Ny it's great to see these pieces falling into place that the team can build around for the next decade.

no joke i love jimmy he was one of the few goalies that i thought had a bum rap he was good but never really elite to me that didnt stop me from thinking with the right team he could go all the way than Mrazek came along and i had a feeling that he could be close to if not the next Dom not just because his Cech but because he plays a lights out type of game i believe that he has for sure won the number 1 tag and that might need to face the fact that here at least he will be a solid backup it could cause him to want to waive his NTC to get another shot at being the starter somewhere else Buffalo Phi ? but for now theres no doubt having these two as a tandem is great however its Mrazek/Howard for sure
