I think us being able to trade Jimmy is a pipe dream. Teams have better options with a cheaper price tag. I don't blame Holland, nobody could predict Mrazek was going to step into the NHL flawlessly. Hopefully having Jimmy under contract will bring Mrazek's contract down in price. Probably go to arbitration

How can you not blame Holland? He's signed 25 million per year of junk in the last 4 years. I completely blame Holland for our inability to get to the next level.

I agree, I thought Q was overpaid, E was overpaid, Howard was overpaid...I do believe Abby and Nyquist got too much per and I am afraid Holland is going to blow a wad on Helm and overpay him to miss the net and hit the goalie in the logo on a nightly basis. Howard was never worth, nor has he ever earned his $5M+ per season...I don't want to hear All-Star blah blah either, he was third string, he was also third string at the olympics as well. I don't even think he played a game over there...I like Holland, but he sure does overpay out of loyalty....I wish he would stop. It's time to pay for performance...

Speaking of over the cap, how the hell is St. Louis able to still operate legally being $3M+ over the cap limit? Noone is on LTIR, they are literally $3M+ over the cap, they should be forced to waive player(s) until they are compliant... I'm probably missing/not understanding something when it comes to the CBA, but it just doesn't seem right...

Yes, but it only shows IR for those two not LTIR....https://hockeyscap.com/teams/blues

unlike on our roster, Franzen and Miller show LTIR and their cap's are not counted...https://hockeyscap.com/teams/redwings

There is something I am probably missing or not understanding. Whatever works for them I guess...

oh he is the man i just dont know who could solidly back him up if we traded jimmy

I honestly think McCollum needs a fair shot.

I was honestly worried for awhile that Holland would trade Mrazek to keep Jimmy happy or because he "believes in him". lol

If were talking backup for Mrazek. Howard to Winnipeg. Pavelec comes back. Throw in Ladd and Buf for giggles.

I'm of the mindset to let Patterson, Coreau develop a little more... I'd rather a veteran backup Petr for a while. You know, someone that can play an odd back to back game here and there and play lights out. Sorry, Howie... I'm falling off the wagon.

Unless a team that is a legit contender suffers a major injury to their number one goaltender, and calls looking to make a trade for Howard prior to the deadline, I think we need to ride it out until the offseason. Otherwise we need to wait it out and shop him this summer, and sign a veteran backup. I like Howard but Mrazek is clearly the much better goaltender at this point and $5M is way too much to pay a backup. I also like Coreau a lot but I'm not sure he is quite ready to backup in the NHL. If they do decide to go with Mrazek - Coreau and Paterson - McCollum in Grand Rapids next season, I wouldn't be too disappointed though.

There is no question that Mrazek is a stud and a future (possibly even this season) Vezina candidate. We have a legit shot to win every game against any team with Petr between the pipes, even when our offense completely dries up for a stretch of games. He has shown he is capable of carrying the load, and winning in big time games. Keep it going Petr!

At the beginning we all were cool with the splitting of games and it was working. But similar to last year after the groin pull Jimmy has lost his mojo after those 2 really really really bad games. If there was a Betty Ford clinic for goalies I would have sent him for a 30 day rehab..but alas there is none.

Watching him during the Ducks game it was almost painful as I held my breath it seemed every time the Ducks gained our zone. I don't want him to fail as I WANT 2 goalies that give us a night in night out chance of winning no matter who is in the pipes.

Anyone got Dr Phil's number for a session with Jimmy?

Yes, most of us were and it was... I just hope the way that we feel when Jimmy gets in the net is not how he feels when he gets in the net.

I hate over analyzing every single rush, shot, and goal that comes his way, but here I am doing it.

We can speculate all we like about him losing his way, how he's never going to get it back and what his behaviour and attitude are, but for the team's sake, I hope he can pull it together for the remainder of the season.

When called upon, will get in the net and play his heart and guts out to the best of his ability.

Even when the world will watch and over analyze every single play; I believe he will remain the consummate professional that he is and has been throughout his time here. I don't believe that Jimmy Howard is one to "sulk" about his situation. It is what it is.

...and when the season is over, I hope Howard tells Ken Holland that he would not be upset about being traded and waives or opens up his NTC.

I'm a JImmy supporter and I think he's nowhere as bad or "average" as many say on this site. But with Mrazek so emphatically grabbing the #1 spot I do think it will be increasingly important to get rid of JImmy's contract. I was originally fine with Jimmy sharing for this year and next year and then being an overpayed backup for the remaining couple of years of his contract, but the transitioning looks to have already taken place and I think Mrazek will demand a heftier price accordingly when his contract's up. The longer we wait, the more other teams think of JImmy as a backup goalie and the less attractive he looks. It may be the offseason or next year, but the sooner the higher the value he'll have i think.

Finding a backup isn't that big a problem and I'm sure we could get one back in the deal or pick up someone in the offseason.

At the Anaheim/Detroit game, when I was there.. One of the Anaheim fans was sitting behind me and mentioned to his wife (or lady friend) "oh I guess they have their backup playing tonight". It was a bit eye opening. I'm assuming he was visiting from Cali and had no idea about our goalie situation. But to hear that made me realize how quickly things can change.

I think for Jimmy's sake and for our own teams benefit, if they're going to trade him, it's got to be done this summer. Anything after might really hurt his value.

Holland's not going to have a problem signing Mrazek. He's going to get paid, as he should. Howard's contract is going to have nothing to do with it. At this point, I'm betting they move Howard the first decent chance they get. Might not the deadline, but I don't think Holland will hang onto Howard because of his value to this team at this point. He's gotta shed $5 million in goalie money and hopefully get something halfway decent back. Whenever he can do that, I think he will.

If Mrazek keeps playing like this, we won't be able toand it wont be smart to sign him to a bridge deal.

We would need to trade jimmy to give Mrazek his salary.

But I think we hold on to jimmy, Mrazek gets a bridge deal, and we're okay until the last year of Jimmys deal where Mrazek is coming off his two year deal and we'll be paying 11 mill for our goalies.

If we really aren't players in any of the big names out there, then I say just trim the fat before the draft (deadline or not) and stockpile some picks....Helm, Howard, Quincey, Richards you could get some nice picks in return for all those guys, especially at the deadline for the skater positions. Unless we get a 1st round pick offer or a nice package set up, I think Howard shouldn't be dealt until summer. As mentioned in the other thread, the other guys listed could bring a nice pick from a legit contender looking for an extra piece to help them go as far as they can!

No matter what, Howard must be dealt with before next season....the Wings can either put their confidence in Coreau to come up or sign someone like Enroth on a year to year basis until Coreau or Patterson are ready...

I can't think of a team that would want to take on Howard and his almost $5,300,000 salary. Puts him at 18th for yearly earnings among fellow NHL netminders, I love Jimmy and all he did for us but he was over paid a bit which will make him very hard to move. Especially while playing the way he is at the moment, hopefully he can bounce back. Toronto needs a goalie, did Babs like Jimmy?!
