Cleary NOT reporting to Grand Rapids

It'd be great if the front office was less worried about signing a guy with zero shot of adding anything to this roster and more concerned with making a decent trade to off-load some forwards for

something in return. We have had a glut of mediocre talent at forward and the need for another solid defenseman for some time yet Holland seems fixated on getting Cleary his $950K. We are

actually debating sending Larkin to the minors because we won't have roster space once Datsyuk returns...that's just plain stupid.

I don't see why anything you just said, has anything to do with Cleary. Do you truly think that Holland spend all him time working on the Cleary contract, and as a result didn't focus on a trade? Do you think a team looking to trade a top 4 d-man were told Holland was busy, or that because of the Cleary contract, he didn't have time to do anything else. On July 1st, contracts are completed in essentially 1 day, sometimes hours. I am not an NHL GM, but I would have to guess that the Cleary contract effected nothing and took him no time at all.

While I may not agree, if you have an issue with Holland not adding a second top 4 d-man this off season that is your prerogative. If you are trying to tell a narrative that Cleary has anything to do with it, that is ridicoulas.

This is almost identical to how the wings approached Maltby's retirement, I don't remember the same animosity aimed at Maltby at that time.

But didn't Maltby try didn't make it and retired into whatever position he has now with the Wings? Vs Danny who is making a semifuss over things.

I respect what Danny did to resurrect his career and playing on knees that finally gave out on him. But sometimes you have to look in the mirror and say I want to do X soooo bad but I can't anymore as my body just won't do it.

How is Danny making a fuss? This is literally the exact same thing that happened with Maltby, he signed a two way contract, got placed on waivers and decided not to play for Grand Rapids. What is the problem?

Exactly. If he came out publicly and started bashing the Wings I would get this reaction, but he has done and said nothing.

Craig Custance ‏@CraigCustance 10m10 minutes ago

Just spoke w/Dan Cleary who will report to Grand Rapids on Tuesday. Looks forward to mentoring young players: "I just needed some time."

So it wasn't a pre-spoken agreement that he'd be going down when he signed this year. He actually believed he deserved a spot in the NHL. Good god

Or he was emotional upon realizing that his career is basically over, and the sport that he's literally destroyed his body to play has passed him by?

Nah, nevermind. He's probably just a delusional jerkoff.

I know this seemed alot like the Maltby situation, but the difference is Cleary still stuck around too long. Had Cleary gotten this deal the first time he came back begging for a contract and it was clear that he would have to earn his spot, there would have been no problem and no animosity. Only this last 2-way deal is the same as Malts, but that would mean ignoring that Cleary turned down a 3 year deal to test the market, didn't get anything, then came back and got two charity contracts when we didn't have space, and then he is in the Maltby situation. I'm not just going to ignore all that.

And look, he's finally reporting to GR!!

You really think Holland didn't tell him how it was going to play out before hand?

Cleary couldn't make the team last season (with Babs) and we're even deeper this season

Cleary IS delusional. I loved the guy for years but he still thinks he can play. Last year he was easily one of the worst players I've seen play for Detroit. If it wasn't a turnover, it was an instant shoot the puck down the ice. Whatever line he was on was made irrelevant.

Hard working players are great to have in the early stages of their careers, but as they get older it just isn't enough.

He was only compared to Maltby because he didn't make the cut and refused initially to report to grand rapids, exactly like Maltby. Him sticking around too long is an entirely different situation but I'm not even going to touch on that.

Even so, the other stuff is the reason he is getting s*** on.

DIdn't know AA was 11. That's my lucky number and I really like the kid. If he ends up as good as I think he will - then I'm buying that jersey. Unless, of course, you have to pay by the letter. If that's the case, I'm hoping Frk turns out.
