Aethernum 276 Report post Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) If you can keep your head when all about youAre losing theirs and blaming it on you;If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,But make allowance for their doubting too;If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;If you can meet with triumph and disasterAnd treat those two impostors just the same;If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spokenTwisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools; If you can make one heap of all your winningsAnd risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,And lose, and start again at your beginningsAnd never breathe a word about your loss;If you can force your heart and nerve and sinewTo serve your turn long after they are gone,And so hold on when there is nothing in youExcept the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,Or walk with kings—nor lose the common touch; If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;If all men count with you, but none too much;If you can fill the unforgiving minuteWith sixty seconds’ worth of distance run—Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son! -Rudyard Kipling ----- In the last 10 years, when the Red Wings have gone on a losing streak of 4+ games, they have averaged 13.5333 points in the following 10 games. That includes instances where one 4+ game losing streak was followed by a win and another 4+ game losing streak. Treating those instances as combined long losing streaks would give them an average of over 14 points in the following 10 games. They have only needed to average 1.29 points per game in order to make the playoffs in the salary cap era, which they have done every single year. You have to be willing to lose in order to truly appreciate victory. Coaches get paid the money that they do to achieve the perspective to take the good with the bad, make appropriate adjustments, and not overreact to the natural ups and downs of a team. That said, it would be nice if the fans could aspire to that same perspective. We are without our best player. We are under a new coach. We are, on average, young. We are seven games into the season. Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted October 24, 2015 That piece "If" by Rudyard Kipling hung in my house growing up and means a lot. It's a great piece of literature. The Wings will come together. Once they overcome all the change and adversity, they will fly high. Go WIngs Go 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

Hairy Lime 234 Report post Posted October 24, 2015 "The sky is not falling" When that line is written as much as it is around here, it should at least be looked into.
