kliq 3,755 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 My guess is that we sign a veteran goalie as I dont see us going with two kids. Someone like James Reimer. I could actually see it being him if some team doesnt throw stupid money at him.
Vladinator16 236 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Has to be other, Mccolum, Coreau, and Paterson are not NHL level goalies as it stands right now. If Howard were traded Kenny would have to trade for a backup as well or sign somebody.
Richdg 267 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Not something to worry about for another couple of years. As of today Jimmy is out playing mrazek. The GAA is 2.01 for Jimmy and 2.42 for Mrazek. The Save % is .934 for Jimmy and .928 for Mrazek. Both are playing great. No need to mess this up. The team has plenty of cap space so no need to make a move. 2 sjr2012 and PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this
StayClassy 38 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Usually when a goalie is traded there is a goalie going the other way. I could be wrong, but based on numbers alone I feel that's the case, no? 1 puckbags reacted to this
amato 3,210 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 I agree with getting a solid veteran backup. And signing seems way more likely than trading for one.. who that vet will be would depend on when Jimmy gets dealt. There are no shortage of potential ufa goalies this upcoming off season or the next.
jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Its gonna be other, but i also think coreau could surprise in the NHL at some point. Even if just for a season before teams figure out an easy way to get him moving side to side. He reminds me of bishop.
MrazekFanBoy 223 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 All I'm going to say is if Mrazek is playing in the playoffs again, we'll be looking at atleast 3 mil ATLEAST, does he still have one more bridge deal in him? I like Howard but he's not crucial to the teams success so I don't know why people are saying we don't have to worry about that for a couple years. Unless they are referring to his contract length
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Would people prefer Howard to outplay Mrazek (even if its a tiny bit enough to win starter job) just so Mrazek can't demand that high salary? Then once he's locked in we send Howard packing following season Boom Holland magic. Mrazek locked in for cheaper.
LeftWinger 4,908 Report post Posted November 7, 2015 Holland magic, its true, but if you recall I have been saying this for a while now. As much as I am a Mrazek fan, and would love to trade Jimmy while he is still valuable, I often stated that it would be better from a business standpoint if Jimmy were to keep the starting job AND start the playoffs this season in order to keep Mrazek's salary a bit lower. He is still going to get a HUGE raise, but if he takes over the starting job outright AND starts the playoffs and gets us into the 2nd round (or further) his HUGE raise is going to be astronomic. I prefer to re-sign him for 2 years on a modest $3M contract and then after Jimmy is traded (if it plays out that way) his next deal will be the $6M+ one. Of course this is all assuming he does indeed play great enough to make Jimmy expendable and warrants Jimmy being dealt.
