The suprising rise of Jakub Kindl

Stats bare that out. We are currently 13th in goals allowed and 9th in PK. Middle of the road for sure. But is being average ok? Right now for the the wailing and nashing of teeth we are the 6th team in the East. Same spot we were in last year.

Most of this has to do-IMHO, with the belief that we are not getting better. We are stuck in the same spot we have been for the past 4 years. Good enough to make the PO's-maybe, but not good enough to get out of the 1st round.

Just for reference, we are 25th in goals scored and 20th on the PP.

Yep that's been our problem ever since Dats, Z and Franzen started missing significant time each year. I don't think it will stay this bad, the team has had injuries and an understandable adjustment period. On defense I'm pretty happy with how guys like Marchenko are coming along. We've been unlucky with guys like Smith and Kindl not following our planned trajectory, it has set us back. Both those guys should be top 4 mainstays the way Holland had thought but that doesn't mean Marchenko won't become an impact player on this team.

There was a lot of expectation that we'd be better this year since we added Green, Richards. Also, Pulkkinen and Mrazek being up, Larkin hype and Franzen returning.

I still think we will end up better than we did last year. I credit a lot of our early struggles to the team getting used to Blashill's system and finding chemistry with new players. Injuries have also played a part in the struggles. It's also hard to find the chemistry for lines and a team identity when key guys were missing.

I'm not too worried about PK numbers - PP, shots, and goals are the problem.

As for Kindl, this has been a storyline that people were talking about before the season stated with Babs gone - I don't know that he's fulfilled Z's prophecy yet. He has still made some pretty big mistakes. Also, he was pretty good at the end of last year after spend the couple of games in GR so I can't see this year's good play as a dramatic turnaround.

Would have been hard for him to feel confident when he kept getting scratched in years past. Especially for an offensive minded guy, you have to get into a rhythm and feel comfortable out there.

All fans are overly optimistic before every season starts. But that is often not reality. Z, D, and Kronwall are all slowing down do to age and injuries. Which should be expected. I never thought we would get anything out of Franzen-he should never play another game for his own safety. Richards hasn't given anything do to being injured. So while green, kindl, and Larkin have given us more O, it really only balances out what we haven't gotten from others. None of the moves made have moved the bar, just maintained what we were. In the end this team is still a 6th through 10th place team, which is what we have been for 5 years now.

How do some people not realize that we are in a rebuilding phase? We're staying competitive today while building a strong team for the future. We have made the playoffs every year for a quarter of a century. No team can replicate the same level of success, through two rebuilds without having to tank, transitioning from a free spending to salary cap league. This team has been middle of the pack for a few years now, but they are absolutely on the rise.

Back on topic though, Kindl has looked very solid to start the season. Here's to hoping he can keep it up.

Cup or Matthews. NO MIDDLE GROUND

In unrelated news, I might be bi-polar

Offensively I agree. Defensively, I think Marchenko has the higher natural IQ than Kindl. Marchenko is still very young and he's already playing on par with some of our current D-men. Can you imagine if he's 28 years old like Kindl is?

This is assinine. Praised after a win? What about the 3 losses that should have been 4 before the win? We luckily pull out a win against a shyte team, and the coach is going to start handing out medals??? Gimme a break.

This is what many would disagree with. Competitive with what? being one of the top 53% of the league? is that really ok? This is most likely the 7th year that we are not a legit SC contender. 7 years is not a short amount of time. Which is why many join the tank it crowd so the rebuild goes faster. Have we even bottomed out yet? Or is that 2 seasons when now when Datsyuk is gone? All of which adds to the frustrations of many, including myself.

So trade Datsyuk and Zetterberg?/tank?

Not to take things to far off topic, but just adding Larkin, Mrazek (first full year), and Green absolutely raises he bar for me. Those are 3 undeniable improvements. I find it hard to think that someone would scoff at adding a top 6 forward, top 4 D, and a capable (or much more) starting goalie.

Yes, Datsyuk, Z, and Kronwall are on the declining side of their careers, but I don't thinkany one of them has declined from last year to a point where they counteract the improvements to the roster. Z's played as well or better than last year IMO, Datsyuk's still powering up. Kronwall's definitely playing worse, but it's not like he's become Ian White out there.

As for expectations, it was unrealistic to think that the transition from Babs to Blash would go without struggles. I'm predicting that this was the low point of the season. We have Datsyuk back, Helm's playing better, Starting to find more lines with success, Pulkkinen's an offensive contributor that we didn't have last year, we'll get Richards and Q back at some point. I think the fact that we're where we were last year despite injuries and the transition bodes well for the rest of the season.

And Kindl will get better too (see, I can keep it on topic).

I feel bad for those of you that would prefer to "tank" than see their team make the playoffs every season. Nothing is guaranteed in tanking. Even finishing last overall doesn't guarantee the number one pick. And picking second or third doesn't guarantee a superstar. Sure it betters your chances but every year there are picks in the mid to late first that turn out to be better than someone in the top five. For every team that has tanked and has followed that up with success there are two or three teams that has tanked only to fail and have to do it all over again. I'll take the Red Wings way over any other team, but that's just my opinion...

They say tank, I say Larkin.

In time yes. But as of today all Larkin has done is score the points that Datsyuk hasn't scored by being out with an injury. That is what I am talking about. Now maybe 30 games from now both are putting up points and we are much better. As for Mrazek, yes he looks like a future star. Our G play has been great to date. Does it matter if it is one guy playing every game or 2 guys rotating? nope.

Agreed. My focus is winning SC's. not just crawling into the PO's and getting the boot. I want Cups! I would much rather be in the LAK's spot the last 5 years than ours. Chances are high they win another before we do.

This is misleading. Yes you want cups (we all do) but you don't believe we can get them with the current roster. Thus you believe we should tank AKA the exact opposite of going for a cup... am I wrong Colonel Abrams?

Youre not wrong, brah. No worries.

But to get back on topic, Kindl is a good offensive defenseman. He just needs a lot of work in his own end and needs to play with some grit. He's got the size.

That could be said of a number of our players bruh. You remind me quite a bit of a past member here that went by the name of Hillbilly, he did well here and so will you bruh.
