sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted November 23, 2015 I agree with F Michael. While the charges sound scary, it could simply be the case of him bringing his gun with him to hunt. Simply having the gun to begin with would be "possession in an unauthorized place" getting it there is "unauthorized importing" and not having enough trigger and case locks, or not having certain accessories stored separately would be "careless storage". Could be as simple as he just brought a gun (or two) up to hunt with not fully knowing all the laws and regs, and got the book thrown at him to make an example. 1 F.Michael reacted to this
GMRwings1983 8,788 Report post Posted November 23, 2015 Figures that a guy named White would have all those guns. 'White faces two charges of careless use or storage of a firearm or prohibited device, two charges of possession of a firearm in an unauthorized place and single charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized importing of a prohibited or restricted firearm, and breach of recognizance.' I think the definition of 'vague' is seen in the quote above...Word of advice for those who enjoy hunting, or firearms - only live here in the USA. I can't be the only guy who think Ian White kinda looks like Jack Nicholson. 2 F.Michael and rick zombo reacted to this

FlashyG 1,799 Report post Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) I agree with F Michael. The Unauthorized possession of a firearm charge means he didn't have a license to carry at all, and the breach of recognizance means that he was already in legal trouble and failed to show up at his court appearance. You also seemed to miss the fact that the gun was a prohibited firearm in Canada which means it was either a handgun with a barrel equal or less than 105mm in length, an adapted rifle or shotgun (ie. A sawed off shot-gun), or an automatic firearm that hasn't been altered to fire only one bullet per trigger pull. Even if your proposed version of events were true, which is unlikely, its pretty stupid to go hunting when: You're not authorized to even carry a gun. The gun you're carrying is illegal You also have said gun improperly stored You're already wanted for failure to appear in court and you have a prior criminal history. There's a reason he was remanded into custody and not just fined and let go, and its not because Canada has a strict criminal justice system. He's in real trouble. ami 273 Report post Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) I think the definition of 'vague' is seen in the quote above...Word of advice for those who enjoy hunting, or firearms - only live here in the USA. I am afraid it may not last long... In Russia, highway patrol are authorized to use any kind of traffic sign at any place, and based on violation of that traffic sign anyone could be fined on the spot (or given a ticket). It makes it very hard to follow the rules when there is no rules. It could be that Canadian government is using similar tactic to make it impossible for a citizen to have a weapon without directly banning it. And US liberal government is closely examine this practice and trying a number of small step int the same direction... Edited November 24, 2015 by ami
