Bummer, Miller & Pulkkinen out a while

He looked punch drunk. It was pretty clear that the lights were on but no one was home when the linesman went to corral him and help him out.

What?!?! Miller with a broken jaw? The hit looked hard and he was pretty much a standing KO. But seriously, last year was the skate to the face and now this. Damn his luck

Jacksoni, we get it. You don't think Jurco is an NHL caliber player. Give it a rest... Also, notice how I said "I'd like to see...", not "I think we'll see...". I'm well aware Blashill will go with something completely different, but I think that would be some great looking lines.

Awesome, Jurco on the 4th line again. Great management of this kid... I love how Jurco gets half a second to prove himself, but literally every other player gets game after game... Jurco definitely slept with Blash's wife in the offseason...

I prefer him playing in the AHL over playing in the 4th line. He's an NHL player when he proves it, certainly has the goods. I won't pester you more on that.

I'll just sit back and observe this enigma, still have no idea what's going on in regards to this kid.

Surely you are being sarcastic. Half a second? We're not talking about Mitch Callahan here. Tomas Jurco has over 100 NHL games under his belt.

It IS odd that Babcock played Jurco on 4th line and then Blash straight up scratches him and/or limits him to 4th line as well. All the while Larkin plays 1st line night in and night out and AA comes in and plays 3rd line for a few games. Keep in mind that Blash was Jurco's former coach in GR and there was never an issue then..

Leads me to believe that.

1. It ISN'T the coaches/management.

2. We don't know jack. There's something else going on here.

More or less my view on the situation as well. Added to the fact that when he has played in the NHL, he has been underwhelming.

Ya those are two pretty long term injuries. Give jurco a good chance to prove himself

Ya prove himself on a 4th line with glendening and Andersson

I don't understand Blashill , praises jurco .... Sends him down gets 1st star of the week after dominating there , comes back and gets scratched after one game

No he gets another chance .... On the 4th line with 2 guys with no hockey skill ...don't get it

Larkin is with helm who scored his first goal on a giveaway/open net and richards who has 0 goals .... Think it's safe to say Richards won't be here next year and helm will likely be gone as well, jurco should be with Larkin next game

I understand it's the ahl, but jurco dominated there at 20-21, went back down and dominated yet again,it's not like he's some ahl veteran .... Blashill needs to give him some real linemates for 5-15 games

Sadly this is jurco's last stand

How many of those were on the 4th line with grinders?? Kids got talent , how about giving him 10 games In a row with a Larkin,Tatar, nyquist, hank or pav?

We're clearly trying to make him a grinding forward on the 4th ... If this continues he will be go this yr or next, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a more of offensive role in another team

His first season up when we were decimated with injuries he spent the majority of his time with sheahan and Tatar, and they were a dominant third line.

They kept the opposing team hemmed in their own zone the majority of the time and they were being praised left and right, then the playoffs rolled around and babs broke them up and didn't try them back together once despite us struggling.

I was praying they'd keep those three together because the chemistry they had was unreal, and they really haven't been back together since. I don't know what's up.

I guess the best we can hope for is during the time that pulks/miller is out Jurco plays too good for them to scratch him again.

He needs to play with someone else other than glendening and Andersson

We should be trying to get him going after his ahl stint went so well rather than 2 guys with one goal who will likely be gone next year

The way the lines are now , bottom 6 I'd like to see

Helm Larkin jurco

Andersson Richards glendening

Or put jurco with countryman Tatar

Tatar Larkin jurco .... That could be a special line .... For now anyways he's on the 4th so I wouldn't be expecting much on the scoreboard

We need to focus less on one player and root for the team as a whole.

The Tatar- Sheahan - Nyquist line has been one of our best. Blashill personally thinks it IS the best. (per his interview today). So that's not going to split.

Richards is useless on the 4th line - he would get demolished sooner or later.

Jurco has experience on the 4th line.

Blash is using his head to do the best for his entire unit. Not just one guy. I like Jurco believe me.

But this team doesn't revolve around him. We need to win games. And to be honest. Our offense has been damn good lately.

That's the thing though, I don't know if blash is expecting him to produce or to be a good grinder but then either the expectations are too low, or too high expecting him to produce with Glendenning and miller.

It doesn't make sense.

Hopefully, he does something good and he gets to stay in the top 9, but I don't trust Blashills plan for him Cuz it doesn't seem like he's getting a fair shake.

This is why I'm suggesting that there maybe something more to it. Is Jurco in management doghouse? Did he sleep with Holland's daughter? Who knows!

Wouldn't be surprised - he's a damn good lookin dude

Anyways the way things are going wouldn't be surprised to see jurco gone during this season or dealt in the off season... Playing on the 4th line isnt going to do anything ....+athanasiou and Callahan can be called up at anytime

Hope I'm wrong but I think his days are numbered

Nope that ain't right. It's not what I want, but I think this is how it's gonna pan out, given what Blashill has done in the past. I'll bet you if you wish.

Jurco on line 2 or 3.

Andersson on line 4.

Athanasiou healthy scratch as backup.

If they call up a kid he will not sit. They'll call up Cleary if they want to just have a body in the press box.

s***ty buzz. Miller could come back with a wired jaw and full cage. He won't, but he could. No big deal though.

It seems a little more intense than that. He's having metal plates inserted surgically to support his jaw. Maybe he come back a little earlier with the full cage, but I'd imagine he's in way too much pain right now.

Jurco on the 4th is fine with me. Helm played there, impressed, was moved up when Pulkkinen struggled - same could be for Jurco. He can take Helm or Richards spot if he shows his energy and forechecking pressure. Also, Jurco is good defensively and can play that role so it's good for the team. My view on him is just that he needs to be playing and should have been scratched post conditioning stint.

People are comparing Jurco's experience to AA - both were on the 3rd line when they first came up but the difference is that Jurco had an extended period of struggling. You can only say that they've been treated differently if AA stayed for 50+ more games, struggled offensively and is kept on the 3rd line.

I like the thread title: who is this player Bummer? and why is he also out a while?

It blows my mind that people still keep saying that Jurco has been given fair shot. He hasn't at all. Not even close. I guarantee 100% that if Nyquist or Tatar were treated the way Jurco has been, they still wouldn't be scoring goals in the NHL. Neither of them were expected to play 4th line duty whatsoever. What makes Jurco any different? Because he's bigger? Bulls***! No skilled winger should be called up to the NHL (especially still being able to play in the AHL - referring to last season) to be molded into a grinder (something he's clearly not). Like has been said over and over again, Jurco hasn't had a fair shot since his rookie season when he, Tatar and Sheahan formed one of the best 3rd lines in hockey. Coincidence? I doubt it.

I am and always will root for the Red Wings as a team first, but I am focused on Jurco because there is no way such a young, skilled player should be managed the way he has over the past couple years.

Sure the Tatar - Sheahan - Nyquist line has been great, but coaches break up good lines to get other players / lines going all the time. Why should it be more important that we get a veteran like Richards going than a young player like Jurco? I think the short term and long term success of the Red Wings would benefit from getting Jurco going far more than a player like Richards that in all liklihood is gone after this season.

Jurco has never been a liability on the ice, so it's not like we're going to lose games waiting for the offense to get going. The skill's there. Give the kid the shot he deserves...

This is usually true when it's your superstar players that are slumping and/or the team is struggling. The Wings are in a tight race right now. The last thing Blashill is worried about is his 14th guy.

To me, it actually makes more sense to get Richards going than Jurco. Richards is a proven winner. A proven center and power play quarterback. He's played at all levels and he has been a dynamic player in his career. Right now he's sucking. But if he can bounce back and become that center we need him to be - this team would very well be a cup contender. The plan was for Richards to center the 2nd/3rd line so Datsyuk and Zetterberg can play together i.e allow them to increase their longevity in the long run of the season. Right now Zetterberg is already slowed down (in fact I think the guy is probably slower than Mrazek in goalie skates lol) and Datsyuk is showing zero signs of being magical.

But I do want to point out that there is a reason Richards was signed to a 1 year deal. This team is still looking to contend for the cup. If they were just looking at purely "what could be 5 years from now with our kids" then the whole Richard's signing would have been pointless to begin with. Their obvious aim is to look at the present while making sure to work towards the future.

Also you can't really compare Tatar to Jurco. Tatar and now Larkin have both legitimately generated their own offense in their short time regardless of their line mates. Then again neither were given a 4th line situation like Jurco has - which I get does suck.
