barabbas16 499 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 Well, that was always going to be a loss if it got to shootout. NHL gets their 2 points for the Caps that they were obviously pushing for.
Mckinley25 677 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 What is Datsyuk thinking? Is his long term plan to do that move so many times so that when he finally changes it up the goalie is completely caught off guard?

kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 I don't blame Jimmy for the S/O loss We know he blows at them. I'm blaming Nyquist for doing the same predictable move and Datsyuk for the same one of two moves he's done in the last 20 shootout attempts. Anyways that's that. Least we got a point. 4 Wheelchairsuperhero, TheXym, e_prime and 1 other reacted to this
sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 Wow... Just reaffirming what most of us already know... Howard SUCKS on the shootout. Is it legal to switch goalies for the shootout? (and if so, why would the Wings let Howie defend the shootout)

Wheelchairsuperhero 1,453 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 There was a time when Datsyuk was good at shootouts. Now he's either bored of them or sucks. Honestly it looks like his hands just aren't as quick. They're still crazy smooth and his hand eye coordination is excellent, but he used to score a lot of backhand forehand or vice versa goals with a speedy transition. He needs to start trying to come it at angles and weave a bit.
LeftWinger 4,961 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 It's also time to give Mrazek about 10 games in a row.
Aethernum 276 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) Yeah...I wouldn't advise going to a shootout against Ovechkin and Oshie. Besides being on the PK for seemingly half the game, I actually thought we looked pretty good. Not upset at us getting a point against the team I consider the best in the East - just needed to bury one extra chance. And yeah, Howard is no good in the shootout, but he played at an elite level tonight. Neither goal was on him. With how Mrazek has played the last few games, I wouldn't be surprised if Howard gets the next one. Edited December 9, 2015 by Aethernum
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 Yup - both look either lame, or simply disinterested. Having Howard in net for the shootout doesn't exactly instill any confidence either. We need Donald Trump in net for the shootout.

Like Pav would have a better chance of scoring using his wrist shot and looking for a hole than trying to go blocker or glove side deke shot. joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 Welp, probably had no business getting two points in that one so theirs that. We pretty much have to settle with Jimmy being the worst shootout goalie in the league, it is what it is. He played great otherwise, first star. Isn't it legal to put your backup goalie in net to take the shootout? I would seriously consider this as Mrazek has been a very good goalie in shootouts despite his minimal attempts I think the Caps are likely to be one of, if not the very best team in hockey all year. They look great, mostly their defensemen. Probably the best puck movement up ice I've seen this year. They are very good I liked Pierre's commentary, you can really tell he respects the Wings organization so much. Almost came across as a suck up, but he knows the ins and out of the team that's for sure. 1 roboturner reacted to this
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 For the folks who think we should switch Mrazek into the net for S/O Although it sounds like a smart idea. I'd assume the coach doesn't do it to prevent injury. The backup is sitting on the bench for 65 minutes. Muscles are tight, lack of blood flow, lack of a warm up. If all of a sudden he's thrown into a shootout where he's forced to stretch to make saves 4-5 times in a row - that's a high risk for injury. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
puckbags 863 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 A decent night spoiled by a terrible 4 on 3 PP with no urgency and two terrible shootout moves by Gus and Pav. I can see why Kenny pushed for the 3 on 3 OT.

joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 I think Pavs shootout problem is that he's really fosing on getting it on net more than anything so he sacrifices his strong deke that we used to see. I'd rather see Nyquist try and beat the goalie on a wrister. Teams must watch shootout videos and know that's his go to move. Haven't seen Nyquist try anything else on breakaways. It's either the quick shot or fake five-hole. Not sure he has very many moves for the shootout

Fonzarelli 73 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 It wasn't the shootout that cost the game. That pathetic pp in overtime was the culprit. Needed Larkin then. 2 Wheelchairsuperhero and daniel1 reacted to this
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 What's with the wings barely getting any calls this year? Something to do with our embellishment fines? Didn't see anything too blatant, other than the high stick on Larkin but the refs definitely haven't done us any favours all year.

Not sure he has very many moves for the shootout Teams, and goalies more specifically, MOST DEFINITELY watch shootout videos of guys they are going to face. ESPECIALLY IF YOUR NAME IS PAVEL DATSYUK!!!! Which makes it even more confusing that he has used the same "two-move" combo for the last 3 years. Goalies are sitting on that move the whole way. Watch Holtby on that attempt. He literally barely moves... It wasn't the shootout that cost the game. That pathetic pp in overtime was the culprit. Needed Larkin then. Pav, Hank, Kronner, and Green combo made no sense to me. Who is supposed to be the shooter of that group? And how do you expect to score on Holtby when none of those guys will be in front? He just decided that this is the year he stops taking them. Since slapshots and 4 on3's don't go together... Except that they do. wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 Good game with 2 good teams. Unfortunately the refs were awful and it had an impact on the game. I'm not blaming the refs but they didn't help. Howard stunk in the shootout. I knew he'd let in a 5 whole goal. Back to mrazek Thursday please. Blash Needs to give pav something to work with! Helm SUCKS. He honestly gives away the puck in the offensive zone every chance he gets. He belongs on the 4th line or 3rd line if blash plays pav and hank together. But fact is pav needs something to work with. ami 273 Report post Posted December 9, 2015 (edited) ps. for a change can we have same advantage in power plays as caps had last game 6-2 ? Ok, I know it is unrealistic, but can it be even this time around? I'd have to admit refs are being consistent: 5-1. ps. and man, stapler (aka ovie) is such a f***!!
