krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 23, 2015 Yeah, I'm sure they didn't care too much about losing a couple days off, being called up to the Wings, even if they didn't play any games (Nosek still might after the break, although I doubt it). I do agree though that it'd be awesome to see Nosek replace Andersson...
Bill Berzeench 310 Report post Posted December 23, 2015 Idk, being called up (at least for Nosek) is probably a huge thing. I'd give up a few Christmas break days off to be called into the NHL hah. Plus they actually get the practice with the squad and see the system which is nice. Yah. Never pass up a shot at being in the show.

Wheelchairsuperhero 1,453 Report post Posted December 29, 2015 If Smith has been our best defenseman for any period we are in serious trouble. Admittedly he has been pretty good lately. I think Smith is going to be one of those you take the good with the bad kind of defensemen. He'll never be a defensive stalwart in my opinion (see last night's over commitment on the first goal) but he does bring some good things to the game. I like a lot of things he does offensively. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

He has to get by the hump of playing from the opening puck drop. He starts slow almost every game and then excels in the 2nd and 3rd. We need him to excel in the first too. kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted December 29, 2015 (edited) Smith has been our best defenseman. 5 pts in last 5 games, brah. That doesnt matter. It's great that Smith is doing well. But re read at my post again. You make excuses for Smith, yet you're quick to judge Nyquist. All of a sudden you label him as a defensive liability? And then you constantly complain about how the forums rag on Smith. You're being hypocritical. Anyways I've made my point. Back to topic. I think Tangradi will be swapped for Andersson soon. He got beat for that first goal and also was responsible for giving a breakaway. Edit: Oops, Grand rapids thread. from our call-ups I do think Mantha will be next. We've seen AA, Nosek, Tangradi time for big Tony. Edited December 29, 2015 by PavelValerievichDatsyuk

I'm a little lost on your point, as there are 3 subject matters you could be referring to. I created a Smith thread so we can get out of this one. Russo and Mantha need call ups soon. They have earned them. Marchenko is losing steam fast and Kindl is press box for life material. We really need to do something with Kindl, Andersson, and Miller soon. Those 3 guys are going to hurt us once Quincey, Ericsson, and Miller are all healthy. I'd like to see a trade to keep room for the Grand Rapids guys on the team. joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted January 4, 2016 Mantha with 20 points in 25 games. Looks like he's starting to adapt nicely, especially considering the Griffins abysmal start. It would be nice to see more goals from him but it's hard to complain. He's making a lot of progress and that's all you can ask at this point.

krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted January 4, 2016 Mantha also has 12 points (6 goals, 6 assists) in the 10 games since he was a "healthy scratch". He had points in 7 / 10 of those games. The Griffins were 7-0 in the games he registered at least one point and 1-2 in the 3 games that he didn't, one in which the team was shut out. I've said it before but I've been very impressed with Mantha all season. I missed the last 3 games but watched most of yesterday's game, and again he was the best player on the ice for either team. I still think he is better off finishing out this season in GR, but I can't wait to see him wear the winged wheel, and it won't be long before he is if he keeps up this level of play. 2 nyqvististhefuture and Wheelchairsuperhero reacted to this

Always appreciate your input as I never get to watch the Griffin's games. I'm still pretty excited about Mantha and love to hear he's trending upward. I'm in agreement, let him ride the full season out down there, learn to dominate/gain some confidence. 1 MrazekFanBoy reacted to this
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted January 4, 2016 Mantha should get a call up sometime this year similar to AA with significant ice time just to get his feet wet. A season of being the go to guys and a deep playoff run with another good training camp and they'll both be approaching overripe status and should dominate the AHL next year (until their full time red wings at least) 1 PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this

I hope they pull him up this year though. No reason to waste any more time on Andersson and Miller. They're lame ducks at this point. Get Mantha and Athanasiou in the line-up. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 4, 2016 A guy who isn't getting talked about enough is Jared Coreau. I think we definitely have our back up of the future, and he might not be that far off from the NHL. He was just named goaltender of the month for December, after going 9-2 with a 1.92GAA and a .938sv%. After a solid first year in GR last year going 16-8-1 with a 2.20GAA and a .927sv%, his next win will tie his record all of last year as he's sitting at 15-4-1. His numbers and consistency are improving, just turned 24 in November, and best of all he's 6'6. I don't think goal tending will be a problem in Detroit for a long time with Mrazek/Howard right now, and Mrazek/Coreau in the future. 2 TheXym and krsmith17 reacted to this
