I'd mix the lines right now. Top 3 have good zone time, but don't generate a ton of chances. (Outside of Nyquist at the end) The blown leads are a bad trend, and it's hard to pin on the goalies. Team takes their foot off the gas as soon as the 3rd period begins every night.

I swear Jimmy cannot hold a lead I mean every time he's in I know the team is going to OT cuz he's letting one in with 5 min left and apparently that's not enough cuz he had to let two in! I know he didn't have a chance but at the end of the day he doesn't make the big saves and Mrazek does when the team needs him most.

Oh waitaminute

I agree that Mrazek gets a free pass alot from this fanbase because he's the new shiny toy, but what is the point of this post?

Perspective. Enlightenment. Realizations. Open mindedness.

I don't know. I think Echo is doing something good deep down tho.

When we're playing well the wings can play with any team in the league (like most teams nowadays) but we just don't have the firepower to be a serious contender. Dats and Z look like 40 pint guys at this point of their careers... Ah well. Thought this would be the year we made big strides but the talent just isn't there

When a teams game plan is to not let us fly through the neutral zone we can't play with any speed. We can't dictate play. We take what they allow us. Could have lost the last 4 in regulation I consider ourselves very lucky to be where we're at

Should have been an easy two points. But no, they give up the 3rd period lead again, another player scores his first goal against Detroit, and the worst goalie in the league plays like Superman (at least at the end).

Keeping in perspective that this is the first time in 13 games they don't get a point, but still incredibly frustrating.

Not like we went 11-2 during that streak. A lot of the points were what people call "loser points". I'll take a point any way it comes, but this is just an average team.

You can say that about any team, though. Anyone can play well on a given night. The best teams play well consistently and minimize their mistakes. We're not there yet.

Here comes some of the posters we haven't seen for a while.

We didn't play a great game, but we had enough to win. Just too many missed opportunities. Pav's post, Helm's shorty, Jurco's reluctant penalty shot, Nyquist at the buzzer.

Well, I'll clear the way now for the "we suck" and "Fire Holland" talk.

Fixed. Now who's overreacting?

I think Howard gets a lot of flak on here, some warranted but a lot is opportunistic and unfair. Mrazek, being the shiny new toy, is mostly immune to that, so it's partly a way for me to try to even the field a bit, but i also wanted to allude to a bigger picture that it might not be an issue with just the goalie letting in late goals. If it was exclusively Howard than there's an argument. But it's been both goalies, and that points more to a problem with the system.

But mostly I like kicking up dirt. :)

Here are some suggestions:

1) We need more goals. Shoot the puck at the net more. And don't miss the net. We get power plays and put on a "pass around the perimeter" exhibition. Get the puck towards the net, collapse towards the net, wait for the puck to squirt out somewhere and get some dirty (not pretty) goals.

2) Petr is very good and at times outstanding...but sometimes he is not positionally sound. Watch video of Lundquist and Price and be a bit more compact, positionally sound, and conserve movement. On Buffalo's first goal, Petr's stick has wandered off the ice and the puck squirts thru the five hole. Stick down and blocking the five hole and the puck is stopped. When you wander out of the crease too far, you have less time to react to tips and redirections. Cutting down the angle by coming out of the net too far is a bit overrated. Just my observation.

3) Blash whatever you are telling our guys to do in the 3rd is not working. We are playing afraid when we have a one goal lead. Instill an attitude that up by a goal is really down by a goal. And play a bit desperate.

4) Jurco watch some youtube highlights of yourself...and do some of that.

We are ok...we are a work in progress...but so are virtually all the other teams. Disappointing loss though. Standings say we are ok...

Offense is just bad. Tatar had a bunch of great chances but he's not quite the 40 goal scorer we need. It's hard for an offense to be consistent when the defense can't execute a point shot. That's like half of every great teams offense, comes from the point. We we're at our best when the D was getting a lot of shots and they're not doing that anymore

Real talk though.

I thought Mrazek had a great game overall.

But I hope our community here realizes that it's not necessarily our goalies. It our team as a whole that needs to finish games strong.

This game was a perfect example of it.

exactly, it's so easy to blame the goalies when the whole play was horrible from the start. twice they tried to clear the boards and couldn't, the result being the puck ending up in our net. Who's to blame though... We really need to finish up the plays and get more goals
