chaps80 1,591 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Tryout just seems to be a depth move with the injuries in goal the Leafs have. In his first game he was backup to Antoine Bibeau, who likely will be called up to the Leafs to back up Bernier after Sparks was injured yesterday. Reimer is out with a groin injury as well. Emery tried out for the Lightning in traing camp but was cut. He was also cut from the Kings' AHL team, the Ontario Reign after three games of a tryout there. What happened to this guy? He used to be pretty damn good, and at least a solid backup.

chaps80 1,591 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Yeah I remember he had a pretty short fuse. The guy could fight though.

I'm a huge fan of fighting and brawls but if a guy don't want to fight or if he's clearly given up then back off. Emery was an ok goaltender overall though. chaps80 1,591 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 His NHL record is'nt bad. 145-86-28, 2.70 GAA, .906 Save %. He played on some good teams though. Went to the Finals with Ottawa and won a cup with Chicago.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 He was diagnosed with avascular necrosis, where the femur heads lose blood supply and begin collapsing (incidentally this is something I was diagnosed with and am currently recovering from surgery from). He had a different surgery than me though, I believe his was a vascularized fibular graft. Essentially they drilled a few holes into his femur head, and clipped off a part of his fibula from his shin and inserted it into the femur head, and connected the blood supply from the graft to the local vessels. Recovery is supposed to be a *****, but for me personally its exciting to see him on the ice (even if he was a goon), especially for him to be a goalie and have to have hip joints in excellent shape. I hope he makes his way back to the NHL. 1 UpstateNYRedWingsFan reacted to this
chaps80 1,591 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Damn that sounds like a complicated injury. He may be back in the NHL soon if the Leafs goalie injuries continue. At this point he's pretty much their #3.
kickazz 5,459 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 Yeah I think my best remembrance of Emery was in Ottawa. That team was pretty good.

But skating down holtby and beating him while he tries to stop it made me like him a lot less.

I just sympathize with him because I know exactly what he's going through, and I hope to be able to skate again in the future, so any success that he has lends hope to my situation, even though our surgeries were different. 1 kickazz reacted to this

I hope he makes his way back to the NHL. That's not new, though. He was diagnosed about 5 years ago. He did comeback with the Ducks and the Blackhawks and he was nominated for the Masterton trophy about 4 years ago. He was great for the Ducks and Blackhawks, but he wasn't for the Flyers (where goalies go to kill their careers). He is 33 so I doubt he'll make a second comeback. His story is inspiring anyway. He does seem to be a jerk. I remember when he was in Ottawa there was a bunch of stories about him being a problem. He fought teammate Brian McGratton (no need for pictures GMRwings) in practice and I think Chris Neil too in another incident. There were other controversies that I forget the specifics of, but they lead to them buying out his contract and he went to the KHL since no one wanted to sign him due to his reputation. Then he had an incident in the KHL where he fought his team's trainer after the guy put a hat on his head after he was pulled. And, yes, the Holtby incident was classless. jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted December 19, 2015 If he really fought McGrattan AND Neil then I forgive him for the Holtby incident. 1 chaps80 reacted to this
