jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 "It was clear that the defenseman to be called up would be Xavier Ouellet. However, Blashill already announced that Kindl would sub-in if Jonathan Ericsson is unable to go, meaning that Ouellet will be a healthy scratch." http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2015/12/19/10628420/report-wings-to-call-up-ouellet-and-nosek I hope Nosek plays over andy, otherwise the call-ups seem pretty pointless. Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 The kid Russo is looking a great pick up. Anyone know the story as to why the Wings have terminated Tvrdon contract?
jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 Apparently he was unhappy playing in Toledo and made it known, so they're putting him through the waiver process to see if he gets a chance somewhere else and if not I imagine he'll be heading overseas. hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Nosek? Interesting. Was hoping to see Mantha, but ah well. Edited December 20, 2015 by hooon
jimmyemeryhunter 2,747 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 I'm hoping they play nosek and he thrives under Blashill. I also wish oulette would get to play, to see how he's coming along... but that's not gonna happen.
LeftWinger 4,914 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 Interesting call ups, I happen to think that XO will get in over Kindl. Nosek is the real interesting one though. Wonder if he'll replace Andy or Jurco? I happen to think it'll be Jurco, I just don't think he is doing enough to win over Blashill...and I'm a fan of his, so I wish he could stay in the lineup and get off that 4th line. Maybe XO is up to be auditioned for a trade? (cue the dragnet music!)
Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Could be. Guess we'll see if he plays. I'm on the opposite side, I think Kindl will play. Edited December 20, 2015 by Jacksoni
NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 nosek wearin 83 in pratice, although he's listed as 82 on notes
TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 It hope he isn't wearing 82, that might make him channel the suckitude of Kopecky or break his collarbone. 3 MidMichSteve, kickazz and chaps80 reacted to this
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 Kopecky was a pretty good PK 4th liner for us. Too bad other teams drastically over valued him Kopecky>>>>Andersson They almost look like the same player out on the ice tho
Dr Dubya 32 Report post Posted December 20, 2015 I can't see Blashill making either of these guys play 3 games in 3 nights unless someone else gets hurt late.
LeftWinger 4,914 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 Sure wish Jensen could get a shot at a call up. IMO, of the 4 kids, Sproul and XO are the most tradeable guys and would hate to lose Jensen over those two. It's obvious Marchy is here for good, but we don't have room for all 4 of them next season, deals will have to be made.

krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 LW, I'm all for giving Jensen a shot, but at the same time, I wouldn't mind seeing him remain buried in Grand Rapids for the remainder of this season. I think the chances of a team claiming him next season is much lower than Ouellet or Sproul, especially if he still hasn't played a single NHL game at the age of 26. I'd personally like to see Ouellet used in some sort of trade package. We have too many waiver eligible defenseman coming up next season, not enough spots, and Ouellet would definitely have the most value on the trade market. At this point, I'd much rather see Sproul get some games in. He's been playing great down in GR of late, and I really hope he can crack the lineup out of training camp next season, because if not, he will definitely be claimed off waivers.. kipwinger 8,458 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 Krsmith, what's your evaluation of Nosek this season? I see that he's producing a little less than a year ago, and he hasn't seemed to be doing much during the 12 game win streak, but I'm not watching him regularly. Jacksoni 418 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 I'm no fan of the french. But trading frenchie XO? He's a legit prospect and should be a considerable upgrade over some chumps in our lineup - Smith and Kindl comes to mind. I am not completely against it by default but would be interested in what you're thinking/wishing to get for him to make it worthwhile.
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 I think Nosek has been good, but his lack of production is likely due to the way Nelson is utilizing him. He's strictly using him as a shutdown center, getting lots of penalty kill minutes, and virtually no power-play time. Also, it probably doesn't help much playing every game with Cleary and Campbell... He's not the fleetest of foot, but he's not slow either, he has a decent shot and is an underrated play-maker in my opinion, sees the ice very well. If nothing else, he would definitely be an upgrade over Andersson in my opinion...
LeftWinger 4,914 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 Doan what ifs again? Just kidding... ...frenchie XO? Wow....bottom line is, IMO all 4 kids would be better in place of E, K, Q and Smith maybe. Unfortunately we won't have room for all 4 kids next season and the only 2 that haven't seen NHL time yet are Jensen and Sproul. They are both RH'd as well. Not that that is the deciding factor, but it is an issue Holland had in the past and probably wouldn't want to ditch both of them. Marchy is here, of the three left, XO and Sproul are probably the most valuable ones and like KRSmith mentioned, are the most susceptible to being snatched off the waiver wire ahead of Jensen. We won't have room for all of them, we may as well try to get something for them this deadline (or sooner) in a package that brings us an important piece to our puzzle. I don't want to lose any of them and would gladly replace the 4 NHLr's I mentioned with all of them, but in the real world, we need a big #1/#2 guy and if it takes a package that includes one of XO or Sproul, I wouldn't be too upset in that trade off. Ideally we acquire a top guy (he will replace Q's roster spot) and then trade two of K, E, Smith in order to make room for 2 of the remaining 3 kids left to come up. It might take Smith, Sproul (and more) to get a top pairing guy, so that would leave us room for not losing any of Marchy, XO and Jensen after K is waived or dealt for scraps... I'd love to be in the sweeps for Byfuglien and would love to see a lineup that looks like this: (I know, I know, not another line combo! ) Kronwall - Byfuglien Dekeyser - Green XO - Ericsson (if he is not dealt (which is unlikely anyhow)) Jensen I'd actually rather see E get traded over Smith, but Smith probably has more return value... krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 Ouellet is highly overrated in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I think he will be a serviceable defenseman, but I think he tops out as a 3rd pairing guy. And no he is not an upgrade over anything we have on the team right now, otherwise he would be playing. As for what I would expect to get for him? By himself? Not much, maybe a mid round pick or similar caliber prospect in return. As a package like I suggested? Depends on what pieces go with him. But I do believe a package can be made including Ouellet to upgrade our defense. Whether or not Ken can get a deal done, is a different story... Everyone knows that I'm a huge Smith supporter so it will come as no surprise to hear this from me, but Ouellet is not an upgrade over him today, nor will he be in 3 years... Smith has been playing some great hockey of late, being spoken really highly of by the coach and Detroit media, but leave it to LGW to continue to b**** about him... LeftWinger 4,914 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 Either way, if we keep two of them or four of them, I sure would like to get something for them instead of waiver loss...

I am not completely against it by default but would be interested in what you're thinking/wishing to get for him to make it worthwhile. Smith is on pace for a 15 point, +15 season. What the hell do you want out of your third pairing defensemen? The smith hate on here is like the flu. We need to just get rid of it. krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 21, 2015 DeKeyser has been moved up to the top pair with Kronwall, Smith and Green on the second pair and Kindl and Marchenko remain on the third pair.
