Mike Green

I really like the addition of Mike Green. He hasnt been as offensive (yet) as we'd hoped but it probably has to do with getting use to a new team and system but he is not the defensive liability I thought he'd be and man is he ever a great skater.... smooth! He has a great shot form the point that he needs to lean into more often. Once Blashill learns how to coach an NHL team and utilize the weapons he has Green will provide more but I am still really happy with him so far.

He has 12 pts and fills our need for a RH D-man.

Why are we paying Kronwall $4m+ for 13 pts, -5.

Why are we paying Erection $4M+ for 5 pts....

Green is not the only D man having a slow go at it thus far. He fills a far better need than E or Q do, that is for sure. Once we acquire a top #1 guy, both Kronwall and Green can go back to being the offensive defenseman they should be. IMO Green should be on the 1st PP unit at all times, he has a rocket shot and needs to shoot at the net more. In this current PP system, our guys look far too much for the perfect pretty play instead of old school shoot hard and shoot often. Get a real net front presence and have Green just blast it at the net time and time again. He'll either start getting more goals or continue to pad his assist total.

Why are we paying Datsyuk $7M+ for 10 points?

Pav will be fine, Green will be fine. I predict that (if the correct players are acquired) Green will win a Norris within his three years here. He needs that big #1 defender to play along side of, and he needs that big net front guy on the PP. Byfuglien can be both of those guys....lets hope the Wings are in play for him if he becomes available.

I think Green's been great. He hasn't put up his usual numbers, but I think he's been among our best D men.

Getting a player of his age and achievement at that contract and term on free agency was out of the norm of giant contracts and 7+ terms. I don't see how anyone can complain about that contract.

This D group is working through issues. No one in the group has been great. In fact, just a few that have been good. I'd say Mike Green is one of those guys that has been good. He'll get better as the season rolls on. Not even at the half way point of his first season with a new coach to him, and new coach to the team.

Fact is, we need him. His cap hit isn't crazy, and we've been screaming about a RH D man for years.

He's the type of veteran player that is a difference maker in big games (playoff's, etc...).

He and Kronwall have both been disappointments in scoring goals. We used to get a lot of goals from our defence.

Our defense hasn't been able to score since Lidstrom retired. We went from tops in the league in defense scoring to the bottom in very short order. I think it has something to do with how we generate offense. Everything gets cycled down low, our defense is only a threat on the rush

Our defense hasn't been able to score since Lidstrom retired. We went from tops in the league in defense scoring to the bottom in very short order but blaming our two biggest point producers on the back end for our lack of offense is a bad place to start. The offense stops dead after the top pair

They play Kronwall and Green 20-25 minutes a night. Those guys should be getting on the score sheet more often.

Green is starting to look more and more like an all around dman like Kronwall. Finishing around 40 points is pretty good. Getting our PP figured out would do wonders for their point totals

Our defensemen just aren't very active which helps us defensively and hurts us offensively. If you watch the Flames their defense is very active and therefore score a lot but look at their GAA and that's one of the best d lineups in the league

Green is doing fine. The market value for defencemen is very high, from the elite to the scrubs. Like someone mentioned, Q makes over $4 million per. $6 million for Green is more than fair, maybe even under market value.

Lidstrom/Rafalski was one sick pairing.

Kronwall no longer has a Lidstrom. Unfortunately. Plus he's 35 now and slowing down a bit.

I am disappointed with Green's scoring I agree with you on that one. Although I'm happy with his 'non-scoring' game. Aka his passing and reading the offensive play. He's been great at making plays up top to forwards.

I'm very happy with how the D has preformed lately. Other than 55 and 52 the D has been getting the job done. Smith keeps showing improvement, but then makes the bonehead play. 65 is on pace for 20 plus points and hopefully keeps up the plus minus. Green has looked very god since coming back. He's on pace for a 40 point season from the back end. Not bad. I don't know what they will do when 27 comes back. Marchenko has been service ale but is starting to show signs of being a rookie. I think a trade for another RH dman around the deadline.

Ericsson and mantha to the Isles

Hamonic to the Jets

Byfuglien to the Wings

You'd trade Mantha to get Fat Albert? I wouldn't. We need all the help we get in big, young scoring forwards.

If Bufflin was a young prospect with similar upside as Mantha, then I would make the move. A young defenseman is more valuable than a young forward. If that were the case, though, the other team wouldn't likely make the trade.

Green has been improving and looking more and more comfortable on the team. To claim otherwise is to be watching the box scores instead of the games.

Isn't scoring points important to winning games? Green wasn't brought in to play physical or kill penalties (things he doesn't really do). I was a big fan of the signing, but I don't see how you can ignore that the offensive output has been somewhat disappointing.
