Heading to Hockeytown

So 10 years ago on New Years Eve, my girlfriend bought me tickets to go see the Wings at the Joe Louis Arena for the first time in my life (we live in Pittsburgh). Later that night, I asked her to marry me and we got engaged. So to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our engagement, my now wife bought me tickets to see the Wings at the Joe again on New Years Eve this year and of course, ironically enough, they're playing the Pens. I feel like that was a sign I'm supposed to go.

Anyways, we have two kids now and they're going with us and I've only been to Detroit once, so I was hoping you guys could help out. Obviously, we're doing Hockeytown Cafe. We'll probably check out the Spirit of Detroit statue too. What other fun things are their to do in downtown Detroit that would be kid appropriate? We're staying in a hotel that's 0.3 miles from the Joe.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

That's beautiful man, happy anniversary.

I suggest riding the people mover, when I was a kid it was my favorite part of detroit. You're going to hockey town cafe, so recommending places to eat seems pointless, but if you're in Detroit you should definitely go and get a hot dog from one of Lafayette or American coney island, (choose wisely, but they're both good)
