Wings Younger Players

As of today, the Wings have 7 players on their roster between the ages of 23 and 25. A few younger and a few older. With the players around 24 years old, it got me thinking about what a great time of their life right now. 24 years old seems to be that point in your life where you aren't a kid anymore but just not quite to that adult age of 25 where everything seems to speed up and you are an adult officially for everything you do.

I also got to thinking about my life at 24 years old and it was absolutely the best year of my life.

Here are some of the things that were happening when I was 24:

Kurt Cobain was found murdered (yes I believe that)

Fedorov was Hart and Selke Winner

Rangers won their last Cup

Dallas won the Super Bowl

Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction were the hottest movies

Baseball cancelled the World Series

Clinton was accused of Sexual Harassment (go figure)

OJ Simpson....well we all know about that!

Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding happened

The Internet REALLY took off for the world!

I had many "girlfriends" that year and was on fire if you know what I mean! Spent a long weekend in Myrtle Beach and hooked up with a girl named Stormi, and yes that was her real name. I took a road trip to Toronto with my best friend and spent a weekend on Younge Street that will NEVER be forgotten! I met my soon to be wife on December 7th that year, funny story, since I was such a hit with the ladies that year, I remember saying when I found out she was interested in me, that I'd f*** her, but I ain't gonna be her boyfriend....uh.....here we are 21 years later, still together, 3 boys, 2 houses and I love her more today than ever (until tomorrow that is.) And just like I mentioned above, since then, time has gone by SO fast that it still seems like yesterday!

What was going on in your lives when you were 24?

I was such a jackass when I was 24. Lots of fun, but I was drinking too much to recognize what I could have gotten started with. Now I have a son named Curtis Joe that's 17 months old, and he makes me a very happy man. He can't catch anything yet, but he is a good boy.

This thread made me think a lot. I'd recently been struggling with a lot of harships and more downs than ups in life. And thinking back to when I was 24 there were a lot of changes and harsh moments as well. So this was a cheer me up thread and made me remember that as long as we keep pushing forward things can bright up and become great...before they turn to sh*t again and so on and on.

Back on track...2008 I turned 24 and the Red Wings were facind he Pittsburgh Penguins, game three was the day before my birthday and Detroit was up on the series 2-1, on what would be a 6 game series before Detroit could win the Stanley cup in Pittsburgh, but y'all knew that...

My birthday's close to the end of the year so I chose from both, but I was still 24. Not much good happened when I was 24.

  • Indira Ghandi was assassinated.
  • 20 dead and 16 injured in what I believe was the first ever McDonald's shooting.
  • Bernie Goetz gets his 15 minutes of fame.
  • AIDS is identified.
  • I got married.
  • Stonewashed jeans are introduced.
  • New Coke.
  • Crack cocaine appears.

On a lighter note:

  • Tigers win the world series.
  • Apple releases the McIntosh.
  • LIVE AID airs and Freddie Mercury claims dominion over the world.
  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opens.
  • Stefan was our starting goalie.
