Forward Line Combos/Discussion

Babs tried it a few times and it didn't seems to work out. They seemed to herky jerky, like they were both trying to be the same thing at the same time. But maybe Blash can figure something else out.

tats works better with dats

Yeah, Nyquist was with dats tonight, I just don't think they're that good together.

They both do better with the puck on the their stick and Nyquist can't play net front, which he ends up doing with Datsyuk him and helm.

Jurco Tatar Sheahan was together again tonght, and they were (unsurprisingly) awesome together again.

I really wish babs would have left them together when they were playing dominant as a third line.. the chemistry they would have by now would be amazing.

I've said for a while now that the Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco line should stay intact, and they were arguably our best line again tonight. If they are not together for the foreseeable future, I will be very disappointed...

I'd go with...

Larkin - Datsyuk - Richards

Nyquist - Zetterberg - Abdelkader

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Helm - Glendening Pulkkinen

Get Helm off a scoring line. I don't care who you put there. Jurco and Pulk haven't been lighting it up, but at least they've scored in the AHL. Hell, even Glendening would be better. Just ANYONE but Helm.

100% agree. I don't dislike Blash at all but he's driving me nuts by keeping Helm on that line. It's not working, that line would be a threat if he moved Jurco or Pulks there instead.

Putting someone with speed next to Pavel seems to help him though, he doesn't have to chase down pucks constantly, but I don't love the idea of having helm in the top6.

Also, Jurco has been playing pretty well lately, it seems like he's getting confident carrying the puck which is good.

Jurco is finally playing the way we (most of us) knew he was capable. He's playing with a ton of confidence, and with that he can / will be a very dangerous player. I'd like to see a line of Tatar - Datsyuk - Jurco, but if Datsyuk really is against that (not sure why he would be...) and he actually does want Helm on his line (not sure why he would...), I'd go back to that 3rd line of Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco. Every time they're together, they're very dangerous, not sure why Blashill keeps straying from it...

Datsyuk wants Helm on his line

I think Blash straught up said that in a recent interview

I think this is the case where the coach needs to be the coach. Datsyuk may be the wily veteran and I get that you need to give them some control, but when it's not best for the team or the line the coach needs to step in.

Larkin - Datsyuk - Richards

Nyquist - Zetterberg - Abdelkader

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Helm - Glendening - Pulkkinen

maybe?

Nyquist sucks with Z now. I really don't want him near him. Larkin and Z work much better than Datsyuk and Larkin do. Tatar is the guy for Datsyuk in my opinion. They just always seem to work together. Larkin and Z have awesome chemistry.

But Tatar, Sheahan and Jurco is working so not sure what Datsyuk can get. Maybe Pulkkinen.

I have a dream...of a roster without Glendening or Anderson. Its rough knowing I'll inevitably be disappointed.

Nyq-Z-Abby

Lark-Dats-Tatar

Richards-Sheahan-Pulk

Jurco-Helm-AA

Couldn't agree more. The PK is bottom ten in the league, given up four PP goals in two games. 29 other teams didn't want Andersson, Glendening is awful and somehow the Wings couldn't survive without one or both of them? It is nonsense to defend their spots being cemented solely because of their PK "ability." There are plenty of guys in the lineup you proposed that could effectively kill penalties.

Your team can't score goals and you keep Joakim Andersson dressed over the guy that led the AHL in goals last season. Blashill's usage of his forwards is horrendous.

I've really soured on anyone who can't get the puck and do something with it. I don't care how many shots you block or how gritty you are. If you don't possess the puck you suck in the modern game. What good are you doing if you block a shot or break up a pass and the give the puck back to the other team for another try? Our WORST possession forwards are on the pk. How do you clear the puck if you can't get it from the other team?

I like the inclusion of Athanasiou but that lineup still isn't good. Like kip said, we have too many guys who can't actually play strong hockey. It doesn't matter how much they try or how close they are to tearing it up if they never do. What exactly do they expect that fourth line to do? Bigger bodies I guess but none of those guys are energy guys. I've never seen the team take things up a notch because of them.

The third line has potential as an energy line and a scoring threat. Maybe. The second line isn't going to work and we've seen that Datsyuk and Z aren't guaranteed magic together anymore.

We've got to cut a lot of guys who can look good but at the end of the day always *just* miss, screw up passes, and try but never actually do anything possession related.
