And your NHL All-Star Division Captains are....

Wasn't it just a couple of years ago that volunteering to sit out of the all star game got you a one game suspension? I recall Lidstrom and Datsyuk having to sit out a game because they chose not to go. Now the league WANTS a player to voluntarily sit out? How convenient moral ambivalence can be!

So let me get this straight, John Scott gets this entire situation thrust on him and his first thoughts were to thank his teammates and think about what a cool experience it will be for his family?

What a dick. Definitely not the kind of "boy next door" role model the NHL has been pushing for years.

Everyone who is planning on attending the ASG in person should go wearing one of those tshirts goddammit

Edit: also, the other pic they were going to use on the shirts originally was way better, as it was a close up of Scott making a derp face and was far more self-deprecating and hilarious. Damn licensing issues.

I hope Montreal never wins another Cup again.

The whole thing was stupid from start to finish, but trading a guy who was put in a bad situation and made the best of it despite the problems it will cause his family is reprehensible. Shame on Montreal for kissing the league's butt.

If the league just had to get Scott out of there, they could have done something to skew the voting. These things aren't like elections. They could have done something to fake a new result and credited the fans with "coming to their senses" or some stupid thing. They'd have saved more face even if they'd been caught than they have with this.

Definitely made me like him more, and I'm pretty disappointed with how this was handled, but it's not like I expected more from the league. Edited by jimmyemeryhunter

Should the NHLPA determine that Scott was traded strictly with a view to exclude him from the All-Star game, the NHLPA could file a grievance.

The NHLPA may also complain that Scott is entitled to play despite the trade - even absent a scheme to exclude him. There mere trade, the NHLPA could argue, does not result in Scott being deemed ineligible for the game.

If the NHLPA acts on this I'm wondering if OEL would even go to the all star game if he was asked to. He might feel a bit awkward about the whole situation. He basically would be taking John Scott's slot that was taken away and is causing a good amount of drama.
