I just hope he's on the ice for the opening faceoff of the first game his team plays. Also, I love that he will get his picture taken face to face with the opposing captains of each team during the ceremonial puck drops.

He should be suspended though, that's the rule. If he's really hurt, he shouldn't be able to play the next game. That's what happened with Lidstrom and Datsyuk (I think) and perhaps Crosby. Crosby I'm not sure, one year he went to the game but didn't play, so it wasn't like he wanted to go the beach instead. Another year, I think he may have been forced to miss the next game or he may have not played in the game before the ASG.

I understand the rule, if you are really hurt....prove it type of mentality and you shouldn't be playing your next game, but I really dislike the rule. Everyone is likely hurting in some way and some guys are playing with nagging injuries, the extra few days will help them, but they don't want to miss a game that matters (the ASG does not matter). I do understand its importance from the league perspective though. Interesting to see what happens, perhaps they've changed the rule.

I more sympathy for Toews than Ovechkin. Ovechkin played over 20 minutes last night, so tough to cry injury, but then be ready first game back. Toews was pulled out of his game and missed the 3rd period....however, that could have been a plan to try and avoid suspension by only missing a period, instead of a full game.

As I stated before, I understand and hate the rule at the same time, but thinking about it....if the league thinks the ASG is important, you need to have your star players play in it, you can't have guys opting out.

I just read that they suspended them one game Bc they backed out.

How dumb, a player has to risk further injuring himself for this shenanigan-nery.

Whatevs.

They should try to get out of it with the union, but idk if it would work.

And all this has made me like Scott now.

The league asking him if his kids would be proud of him, I'd go out of spite too.

I am ok with the suspensions since they did it to Datsyuk and Lidstrom. It is still a stupid rule, but if they did it to the Wings, then others should deal with it as well.

Yeah these suspensions have been the precedent for a while now. I'm sure Ovie and Toews knew what was in store for em.

I think if players don't want to go to the all-star game they should be firm with the fans to not vote for them. The league may not change the rules but a player can straight up communicate through the media.

Wait. I just realized. Toews wasn't even voted in was he? He was picked by the NHL? If so couldn't he have declined back in december like people assumed Hank and Pav did to let Larkin play?
