Think we should be focusing more on defensemen .... don't know much about him but guessing by his size that's something the wings might like? Maybe he's a physical player?

What would it cost us to land a 19th overall pick ? I'm thinking a athanasiou + type package and I personally wouldn't do it

Ive liked Rychel for a long time. Hes a fairly big, very abrasive and physical, first round draft pick who's scoring at roughly a point per game in the AHL. What's not to like? Columbus wants defense, I'd flip them a good defense prospect for him given our lack of power forward type prospects.

I'd take him in a heartbeat, but not for AA. That in terms of development is overpayment. They may accept a draft pick and a NHL player like Andersson or Jurco. Not that I want to trade Jurco, but Rychel is dynamic and just needs the opportunity to showcase it. I remember he was one of the 4 or 5 guys I wanted Detroit to draft if Mantha was taken before them. Columbus just isn't the opportune place for a young budding star to play. If you want someone to "pull the piano" for Pav, this guy is heads and tails better and offensively more adept than Helm in that role. Tatar - Pav - Rychel....that would be something to watch!

...and if CBJ wants D, I would surely throw K and a prospect out there for some bait. Maybe not one of our top 4 kids, but maybe a Nedomlel and Kindl along with maybe the 3rd we get from TOR.

The folks suggesting it would take AA to get him are dramatically overestimating his value. The fact that he wants out of the organization reduces Columbus' asking price. A comparable would be Nino Neiderreiter, who went to Minnesota for a fourth liner, not the organizations top center prospect.

Isn't clutterbuck one of the better bottom line guys in the league? It be like trading glendening/helm(if he had more term) and I personally wouldn't

Maybe considering jurco was so dominate in the ahl when he was there and still really young a jurco for rychel trade could be had? I like jurco's upside though

You mentioned dmen, Detroit themselves need help in the back end ... Only one I might consider moving is Brendan smith (since I don't see him here longterm, and can't see them taking kindl)

Rather keep Russo ouellet and sproul

Well, someone will need to take Kindl, when Q gets back (even though I am not a fan of his) where is K going to go? They most certainly (well, I guess I shouldnt say MOST certainly) won't be sending Marchy back to GR. They will need the cap space, because Miller is due back soon as well, and they won't be able to do it by sending Marchy down. They'll need to dump more than that.

It's best to try to dump him for something....its just too bad when healthy we are way up against the cap, too many overpaid D-men in Kronner, E and Q...for what they bring.

I think he can become a light version of David Backes and that would be something this team needs. Doubt a 3 or th get it done but maybe Jurco + a 2nd?

Columbus is known for dumb deals now, I bet they could get him for a 3rd if he really wants out.

I have to say, I see red flags. When I read things like "repeatedly asked for a trade before the season began" to me it screams entitled 21 year old wanting things handed to him.

I could be wrong, but it worries me. I believe that 9 out of 10 times if you work hard enough and show you should be playing at the pro level, you will.

Rychel was a first rounder because daddy fed him a ton of minutes and told his team to make sure Kirby got plenty of shots, according to a couple pre draft reports I read about him.

His father traded him from the Spitfires to the Guelph Storm and his points were just as good or better (his OHL playoff 32pts in 20gp were definitely better than his playoff #s with the spits) on a team where his father had no influence. I'm not sure if that happened after he was drafted, but it still discounts those claims.

Here is what Hockey's Future writes about him:

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/kerby-rychel/

Talent Analysis

Rychel has solid, upper-end quality hands and has come a long way since first being drafted. His skating, once a liability, has improved; allowing him to let his tactical and technical ability show. Consistency was an issue early in his career. While he still has defensive lapses at times his two-way play is much-improved. Like his father, former NHLer Warren Rychel, he has a bit of pugnaciousness and plays with an edge.

Future

Rychel attended training camp with the Blue Jackets and began the 2014-15 season with AHL affiliate Springfield before being recalled at the end of November and making his NHL debut against the Nashville Predators. Showing the playmaking skills for which he was noted in junior hockey as well playing with a physical edge, he is one of the more promising forwards in the Columbus organization. Long-term he projects to being an effective two-way player that makes those around him better with the ability to score the occasional goal.

From thst projection, I would think Kindl would be a good trade. Developed #6 NHL defenseman for undeveloped 4th line center. No reason to trade more than Kindl to get a poor man's Sheahan.

Wonder what Scott Parker has been up to these days?

Anywho - on a serious note - if Holland is gonna make a trade - wonder what it would take to pry James van Riemsdyk outta Toronto?

EDIT - looking at the photos - I'd say Parker, and I would get along nicely...Cigars, and adult beverages!

I thinks he runs a barbershop now. Remember reading a lengthy article a few years back on him. Admitted to suffering from concussion symptoms like other players have. I'm sure he'd be fun to hang out with until you get on his bad side.

What makes you think the Leafs would trade van Riemsdyk? He's leading the team in scoring and they lack talent to boot. That trade would make no sense, unless Babcock wants to be reunited with Joakim Andersson.
