Seems pretty steep for someone who is going to be a FA at the end of the year and has liked multiple tweets about continuing his career in Toronto.

The other part of the rumored deal would that it would be part of a sign and trade - Stamkos would sign an 8 year deal and then be moved.

"moving Datsyuk down to a third line checking role more suitable to him."

Something tells me this guy doesn't know much about, well, anything.

That was my first thought too :P

That said, I'd do it. Tough to say who would win that trade.. depends on if drouin and/or Mantha reach their potential and what the draft picks turn into.

But it'll never happen. I don't think stamkos is going anywhere.

Would it be possible to add Holland and Yzerman to that trade? I mean a straight swap of GM's? Then I might be inclined to agree.

Yzerman has fleeced that idiot before with the Quincey trade. If Stamkos doesn't commit to Detroit, there's no reason to make this trade.

Just realized the article seems to suggest that stamkos would just sign in Detroit in the off season anyway.. Why would the wings give up that much to get an extra year then?

And why would he want to Sign in Detroit? Because he suddenly likes first round playoff exits?

I almost included that question as well.. Why would Detroit be his "team of choice" as the article suggests?

Holland and Detroit are known for treating their players well though.. maybe that it if stamkos really is having problems with management in Tampa or something. But most likely it's because the writer is a wings fan and so why wouldn't stamkos want to play here?! :P

Stamkos could take care of our scoring problems for the foreseeable future, plus, we'd still have a ton of young forwards to play with him like Larkin, Tatar, Pulk, Abdelkader, etc. I could see Larkin and Stamkos being like another Yzerman and Fedorov or Datysuk and Zetterberg. Adding Drouin to this deal would make it too good to pass up. With Franzen probably never coming back and Datsyuk possibly retiring after next year, we'd have the cap space to pull this off. I love this, but I don't think it'll happen. I do think that if Stamkos is traded though, he'll be signed already or the trade will be contingent on the team receiving him signing a deal. If the Bolts want the max return on him, they have to trade him signed. No one will give that much for a possible rental.

If that's the case then I'd do it.

We need a center to replace Datsyuk when he's gone exactly 1.5 years from now. And we need someone of the elite caliber category. Stamkos or Koptar are the possible UFA's I'd hope Holland would (miraculously) land somehow.

I actually believe we have a shot at him when he hits free agency, so I'd rather just wait for that.

But I would probably do this deal as it was laid out, but I'm also on the fence whether or not I believe stammer will actually be worth that money, because he has seemed to decline quite rapidly.

I'd go for this trade happen but i don't think goose should go the other way in fact i think its highly unlikely for Nyquist to be traded in the first season of his contract especially since he has a nmc and he's so close to a lot of our current players, Goose will look and be a lot more useful by the time pav and Z are gone.

McKenzie is talking about the possibility of the wings going after Stamkos in the offseason if he makes it to freeagency.

http://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-steven-stamkos-loui-eriksson-canucks-predators-red-wings/2016/03/19/

Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260 on the Detroit Red Wings and Steven Stamkos.

Well see where it goes. Theyve got some work to do on the salary cap front in terms of signing these guys. Danny DeKeysers contract is up. Mrazek contract is up. Riley Sheahans contract is up. But theyll get those guys done.

Ill be curious to see I dont know, and again, this is not me reporting anything, but Ill be curious to see IF Steven Stamkos gets to unrestricted free agency this summer, would the Wings try to get involved in that and see if theres a way that they could manipulate it.

Obviously huge financial implications for a contract like Stamkos, and I dont think Ken Holland I mean, Steve Yzerman learned at the feet of Kenny Holland in the Detroit organization. I dont know that Kenny Holland believes you can pay somebody $10 million-plus in a salary cap world and still do everything else you want to do around him, so maybe philosophically it doesnt make sense."

Why would he want to come to Detroit ... especially if we have to dismantle the whole youth corp to get him. We're left with an aging group of vets who are in the twilight of their career.

I wouldn't if I was Stamkos. It can't be the money, every team will offer him the big bucks so in order to win this lottery, it has to be something about the team and its potential to win the Cup.

Logic says no.

Stamkos to me is just a pipe dream. The guy will get paid it's not a matter of if but simply which team. 10 mill isn't going to be enough the guy isn't even in his prime yet and already the second best player in the world.

Would he fix the center problem? oh yeah! But what's in it for Stamkos? The core is on their last legs, nobody knows what how good the kids will be. Superstars aren't interested in potential they want to see progress and building towards a Stanley cup winner. failing that factors like grown up city etc. will come into play, which means edge to Toronto.

To me the darkhorse team in all of this is Buffalo and the ability to play with RoR and Eichel for years to come. Toronto has nothing close to that. Well the mindset of not paying someone 10 mill per even if they easily deserve it would make sure the wings never get any superstars or won't be able to keep them. Just for the record I think he will get much more than 10 per if that would be enough, Stamkos would have been extended by now.

Strongly disagree here.

I also don't think hes in his prime (even though hes at his "prime age" and I believe hes had his most productive seasons already. Stamkos doesn't scare me like he did 3 years ago and I don't think he ever will
