I would almost guaranteed he gets picked up. Fell victim to the numbers game. NHL ready D man that could help alot of teams on their 3rd pair. He also has some PP experience.

Kind of crazy they actually put him on waivers, but after how much praise Marchenko has received lately I kind of figured it would happen.

I'm kind of surprised they couldn't get a 7th round pick for him, or a borderline bust prospect or something, but still, good stuff.

The problem is that he just doesn't have enough value to trade for even for a late round pick when teams know he is going on waivers most likely. They might as well try their chances and if they don't get him oh well.

Good news. Hopefully a team like Edmonton will take a chance on him...

Bigger question now is, who gets scratched? I'm hoping Ericsson, but I'm not sure if Blash will do it. Although, I really didn't expect this today, so who knows...

I'm hoping to see something like...

DeKeyser - Green

Kronwall - Marchenko

Smith - Quincey

Ericsson

Wings tried to trade Kindl for draft pick but couldn't. Teams wanted them to take back a player in return and they can't assume more salary.

Beat me to it puckbags.

Also Ken Holland said Quincey won't play Sunday in Anaheim, but will play Monday in LA. They don't want him playing back to back.

Hopefully he gets picked up by a team in need of a defenseman with some experience. I always like Kindl, even though he made a lof of boneheaded mistakes defensively. I still thought he was one of our better offensive guys when he was on his game.

More roster mismanagement and another bad contract by Holland. Just thankful the Red Wings made the right decision in this case and kept Marchenko around instead of taking the easy way out again by sending him down.

Now if Blash could just sit Ericsson instead of Smith or Marchenko going forward, we are on to something.

Kronwall sits ?

I would actually embrace a rotation on defense that allowed Kronwall some time off. The guy looks done this season. He has been regressing for years, but those tough minutes have really caught up to him now. Embrace the youth movement on defense -- DeKeyser and Marchenko have done real well with more responsibility and Smith is playing his best hockey too.
