Jakub Kindl waived

It's either a trade to lose some cap money or it's putting Andersson through waivers. I think Andersson has a higher cap hit than Marchenko and is closer to the $1 million

Or it's someone getting injured tonight. Which I really don't want.

Another player that was signed by Holland that he can't give away. One of his biggest areas of mistakes.

Of course you're here to point out the negatives. What a loser Holland is for brining us Larkin.

Oh wait...

Ya your right. Marchenko is 700,000, and Andersson is 815,000.

i wonder which players other teams wanted us to take back for taking Kindl, maybe Kenny could have gotten a bit creative?

Thing is we can't afford to bring a player back because were in a salary crunch. That's why he was trying to rid Kindl and get a pick for him instead. Ultimately freeing cap space.

Another player wouldn't have helped since we'd just be paying the new guy.

Who knows, maybe this wakes him up? Kindl is still a serviceable defender as a 6th/7th or even a call up. I at one time was very high on him...hope everything still comes together for him.

People said that when Kindl when he's been scratched for extended periods, when he was sent down last year for a conditioning stint and scored a bunch. Then we hoped for a resurgence under Blashill. I think he is as good as he's going to get - he has good stretches and bad. He's a good bottom pairing guy, but now that Marchenko and Smith have leadfrogged him in the depth chart I don't see him getting any more chances. There would have to be 2 injuries and even then we have other options for call ups

I was thinking about that comment. It would be a team in need of defence and close to the cap so that they needed to clear salary to bring him in.

I'm thinking it could have been the Canucks - They had Hamuis and Sbisa injured and this website:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canucks-hamhuis-opens-up-about-gruesome-injury-recovery/

says that some of their advance stat defensive numbers are amongst the worst in the league.

Also, they are the closest team to the cap with only 0.555 capspace so they couldn't take on any salary without sending some out. And they are 9th in the west so they want some help to get them in the playoffs.

More excuses for Ken. It's never his fault for not getting the results. Interesting.

Yeah, Stevie Wonder could see he was trying to keep as much depth as possible and make it work money wise, but you can't win em all.

I wonder if we'll see him traded now that whatever team acquires him can immediately send him to their AHL team.

I read somewhere that would save us around 250k too.

Yeah it sucks that he couldn't make a trade, but the dude helped build a repeat champion team, rebuilt it on the fly and won two more, then retooled it and almost repeated again.

If kh ever does step down can you imagine what all the entitled empty headed fans will do the first time he hits a rough patch? Or even worse, when he has success?

It'll take him twenty years before people stop attributing his success to riding Hollands coattails.

But nevertheless, I'm kind of excited to see what kindl can do for grand rapids, he could be one of the ahls best d men. Maybe Todd nelson will get through to him straighten him out and hell gain some confidence down there and it'll help him get back into the NHL.

Then again it might go the opposite way, He was already almost at that age where he automatically becomes less appealing/borderline useless in the NHL, now that he's in the AHL where most of the players are 18-25, I wonder how bad he'll look in comparison.

I'm genuinely curious to see how he handles himself when he gets pressured down there though. If he can get back to taking hits to make plays, and remember how to use his size to his advantage and get into the habit of playing that way consistently he will be back in the NHL.

Ive given up hope on him with the wings, but I think itd be kind of cool to have him as the new veteran leader on d for grand rapids.

If I had my way....

13-15-21

2-25

71-40-17

55-14

I like:

56-15-13

2-25

71-8-40

55-65

Those are not the winning powerball numbers. Not even close.

...but you know, to keep it topical and everything:

Where will Kindl slot in on the Griffs powerplay units?

Also, unsure if mentioned: One thing to keep in mind is that Kindl clearing waivers could possibly make it EASIER to trade him now on a retained salary deal. New team could place him directly in the AHL which would give them either time to make any moves they want to do in regards to Kindl. ...but I think one of the other problems teams may be running into is their availability of a roster spot in general. More and more we're seeing teams developing their own draft picks and by having to move them around it can mess with their own prospects development. Either way, just something else to chew on while you grind your teeth about how Kindl is still part of the Red Wings organization.

Good point. Like where your head is at.

Also, not sure if this is true or not but:

Worth noting the team does not actually have to free up the 1 million or so in salary that Holland says they do. He wants to free up the cap so that bonuses would be counted this year. Not really sure how he does it as even waiving Andersson would not free up the required space.

I find that so often an injury will solve a impending cap issue. With hockey being such a physical game, it's just inevitable. When Drew Miller comes back, someone else will get hurt. I think we will be okay.
