Now I'm determined to think of a book that will scare you

The only work of fiction that's ever creeped me out was House of Leaves by Mark Z danielewski, and I wasn't scared by it, just weirded out because the book was designed so damn perfectly to match up with the story, that and the "navidson project" the book used as citation was actually based off the diaries found in the winchester house.

I've read quite a few full on novels that are supposed to be terrifying, but unless it's true or based in fact some where along the lines, it doesn't creep me out at all.

I LOVE reading about serial killers, because those people exist.

Anything fictitious that anyone could create isn't half as terrifying, or weird, or mysterious as what the real world can produce,

I didn't like the babadook. I was so stoked and ready to like it, but was disappointed. I usually really like the slow burn psychological horror, but it just didn't spook me. Combine that with the fact that the movie commits the One Cardinal Sin that makes me dislike movies

Spoiler alert for those who haven't seen it:

Using animal death for an easy "terrify and disgust the audience," I give the babadook a big thumbs down.

I loved It Follows, though. There is so little great horror nowadays.

And jim jam, r/paranormal is probably more your speed since it is people recounting "true" paranormal events that have happened to them (I use " " because I'm sure some people are just spinning yarns as someone always inevitably does when the topic comes up). There are a couple other subs that are devoted to actual experiences as well.

Yeah, I'm fairly new to reddit still, but I'm almost positive that most of the posts by reddit users are bs anyway. Ha.

I'm giving nosleep another chance though, cuz most of the time the comments in there have links to fun stuff to read.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll check it out.

We should just combine the water cooler and general discussions thread, or maybe add water cooler as a special tab under general discussion. I just feel like the reason this is so inactive is because people are too lazy to click in this section. My phone always automatically goes to the general forums area.

Mabus, if you're out there, what do you think of my idea?

If he doesn't respond I'm going to report my own post so he gets a notification

A while back I had suggested moving the water cooler up toward the top of the forum menu instead of at the bottom to encourage more people to check it out.  It was met with resistance from Matt and the mods back then but I still feel it would be a good idea.  Having just the water cooler up at the top of the forum wouldn't hamper anyone wanting to get to the general hockey discussion thread because that will also be up near the top and visible immediately upon coming into this site, so it's not like there would even be any scrolling required.

I know right?  I had some friends over a couple weeks ago and we found out one of them had never seen Signs.  Literally to this day the only movie to legit scare me.  I remember being scared to look out my bedroom window when I was younger because I might see an alien silhouette on my neighbor's roof.  That also started quite the alien/UFO phase in my life.

I was super leery of this movie, but the trailer makes me feel cautiously optimistic. Apparently this movie is only focusing on the first part of the book when they are kids, and leaving the adult portion of the storyline for the sequel. Hopefully the ending is somewhat satisfying, and figures out another method other than

*spoiler alert*

an underage gang bang.

Man, this story kept me from going to the bathroom, at peace, for a whole year. They showed it on tv but I missed it and everybody was talking about it for the next few weeks at school.

It took a year for it to be back on tv, so I finally saw it and the nightmares and fright of going to the bathroom disappeared. it was actually pretty cheesy... compared to what my mind made up
