Players Tribune: John Scott A Guy Like me

Well, the fans didn't really vote him in. Most fans jumped on his bandwagon the last couple weeks and soaked it all in with him, but the vast majority of fans didn't vote him in. He was voted in by a very small group of people that arranged to have multiple votes a day cast (someone more tech savvy than I can probably explain it).

There is a big difference here than simple fan voting. They'll keep fan voting, but they'll ensure that each IP address can only vote once. If everyone was limited to one vote each, John Scott would not have made it into the game.

One vote per IP won't stop a thing thankfully

Won't work. Proxy servers all day to cheat that. If NHL does decide to do it then "tech savy" folks will be sure to get a kick out of abusing the votes even more. And now instead of having one john scott per AS game, you may very well have 3 or 4. People get a kick out of screwing with those who put restrictions.

They're better off leaving it the way it is or only making players eligible for vote if they are currently leading the team in one of the major stats or something.

Besides, this whole John Scott fiasco worked in NHL favors too. John Scott had a heroic night but the NHL brought in a lot more viewers and money because of it. It was a win-win situation for both parties in a sense.

What a great read. And what a great guy.

I'll be the first to admit, I've never expected an enforcer to turn out to be such a nice guy.. but I love everything that the John Scott saga has become. also, Go Huskies.

Enforcers have frequently been the nicest guys on many teams. If anything, it's usually the star players who act like a-holes.

It's not the fame, a lot of star players have been held on a pedestal their entire lives and treated like Gods (from a very young age). I have to imagine that type of treatment produces more aholes than the simple general population, but I have no evidence to back that up.

I am starting to notice that trend. I'd go as far to say that most hockey players seem to be pretty nice guys.. And definitely agree that the bigger a-holes seem to be the bigger stars.

And Toby, they try to do the IP address thing already i think.. I'm pretty sure you only get five ish votes per day or something. There are ways around it in which people exploit to stuff ballots, yes. In all likelihood, the nhl will just have a predetermined ballot for captains of 100-150ish players or so.

It was a really cool experience having John Scott there though.. Now just trade him back to Arizona please. (If he even wants to go back after that nonsense)

Honestly I think most NHLers are pretty nice guys to hang out with but the thing with enforcers is this, they are also very smart:

Scott has an engeering degree, Westgarth succesfully finished Princeton, The Grim Reaper is a lawyer, wouldn't surprise me if Gazdic and Reeves would be Harvard finishers.

as far as changing the ip it's so simple:

either use a Proxy or even better a VPN client :)

I'm not getting my hopes up, but if were the GM guys like Scott, Prust would NOT play in the AHL right now

Then check this one out

here comes the Boom!

He got beat pretty badly by Orr also. Knocked down with a body punch. Scott is just really BIG. He's not a particularly skilled fighter. I would never put him in the same class of fighter that a Boogaard was.
