NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 The team mate ratted him out And WIIM is pushing to find who the rat was... https://twitter.com/wingingitmotown/status/700086186073657345 As if the footage and the lack of a concussion protocol weren't proof enough. Still, texting a teammate was pretty stupid move on his behalf "(t)he only problem and the only reason I'm here is cause the stupid refs and stupid media." Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 I wonder if he'll be moved at the deadline if there's any animosity between teammates because of this. Are suspended players able to be traded?
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 The team mate ratted him out It was probably Hudler. I wonder if he'll be moved at the deadline if there's any animosity between teammates because of this. Are suspended players able to be traded? He had good numbers last year, but I don't know who'd want him now, especially with baggage around him.

Barrie 900 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 I thought he should have sat out the rest of the year, but I'm satisfied his 20 game suspension stuck. Wideman had no excuse. Players get concussed in hockey all the time, and none of them have gone after an official. As mentioned, I think if any reduction in the suspension would have made it open season on the officials, and the player could have said, "Oh sorry, I had a concussion". 2 chaps80 and Hack & Whack Rule! reacted to this
NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted February 17, 2016 (edited) Holland acquired Bertuzzi back in 2007 - so I'm calling it now - Holland gets us Wideman... sh*t really went down in '09. Good thing is that he didn't get to lift the Cup. F**king hate that guy! Edited February 17, 2016 by NerveDamage
TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 After reading that report and reading about the text message, I wouldn't have blamed Bettman if he increased the suspension. If he goes to the arbitrator, can the arbitrator increase it? 1 kliq reacted to this
Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Wideman's a tool. I was already wishing they would have tossed him for forty, but after the text message I think forty is too light. Screw him.

vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 I don't think the NHL accepts a "crime of passion" defense.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 How the hell did the NHL get his private txt message? I think appealing to an arbitrator is a smart move. because the guy is neutral and doesn't have a connection to either the NHL or the PA. Wideman will need to prepare a better defense for his cause that's for sure

LeftWinger 4,953 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 If the "teammate" indeed turn over the text message, what a dick. I don't care if it was the wrong thing to text, or even if he hit the linesman on purpose, you don't dick over your friend that way. Of course they most likely aren't friends anymore and I don't doubt there is some retribution coming...and I don't blame Wideman if he does. It doesn't matter if what Wideman did was wrong or right, you don't rat out your fellow player unless you had an agenda. In the working world that is called being a company man. This "teammate" had no reason to rat him out on the text. He had no interest in the case, but now he is balls deep in it. Revenge will be sweet. Again, I am not condoning the hit, nor even the stupid text, but man, what a dick move by the teammate. That is worse than the incident itself and I hope the rest of the team takes care of it. Unless Wideman sent out a multiple text to many teammates, then he knows exactly who it was and s***s gonna get real, really soon...

NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 So how many games has he sat out already? 8 so far. The game, in which the incident happened, was the last before the ASG, and the hearing was the same day as Calgary resumed their schedule.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Some people are speculating that even if he wins an arbitration, he'll likely miss close to the 20 games anyway (or at least 13-15). This is probably true, but my guess is that the appeal is more about money, while he can't get the games back, he can get money back.
sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Sure Wideman can't wait to start playing for Calgary again now, knowing that one of his teammates is a completely untrustworthy scumbag snake. Totally agree with LeftWinger. Regardless of if you agree or not, it is a total piece of s*** move to rat out a teammate like that, and says everything about said persons character. I hope the entire team comes together to flush out the snake and handles them appropriately.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Whoever provided the NHL with that txt message should be help accountable teamwise, you either support nor teammate or don't get involved at all. I think the move is about getting his money back and of course to set a precedent to overrule the decisions of a commissioner.
LeftWinger 4,953 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 yep, what that player needs is an Eric Lindros blanket party...I guess whichever player on Calgary is scratched due to having broken ribs from a "car accident" is the guilty one!

Wow guys...way to completely make something up out of nothing...lol No teammate gave any texts to anyone. Bettman requested all written information which by law includes text messages. Wideman was required by law to hand them over. 1 NerveDamage reacted to this
roboturner 562 Report post Posted February 18, 2016 Yeah I guess it's in the CBA that they can look at players' text messages. Which is crazy. Like the players didn't give up enough already for this CBA to get done?
