The Petr Mrazek Appreciation Thread

The fact that this is even a discussion is downright insane. Are there people who really think that the greats never had a bad two game stretch in their careers?

to be fair i don't think anyone actually is having this discussion. At least in this thread, everyone seems to be in agreement that Mrazek had a couple bad games, and those two games shouldn't represent his status to the team or his overall ability to be a goalie.

or howard and mccollum ugh

McCollum has never really been given a shot. Has he even started one NHL game yet? I know he's came in in relief a couple times, but that's it. He's a former first round pick. I know he hasn't been the greatest in the AHL. he's had ups and downs, but i'd like to see him get a chance at the backup role in Detroit before he's fully written off as nothing better than an AHL goalie. If he doesn't work out, so be it.

If this means 5 game trial I am down. If you are suggesting we go into a season after trading Howard with McCollum as our official #2 I would be very, very nervous.

You cant keep a 5.25 million dollar back up. U just cant.

Who plans on keeping Jimmy for the backup? Short term with Petr & Jimmy is the best case for us, with hopes of Jimmy playing the way he did the other night so his stock goes up and we can trade him for more then a bag of pucks.

The free agent goalie pool is pretty deep this year

Holland said he will explore trading Howard in the off-season, so some posters are interpreting that as Holland refusing to trade Howard. Don't shoot the messenger lol.

I disagree about the free agent pool for goalies being deep, its pretty much all backups. There is quantity for sure, but not a ton of quality. The "headliners" are Hillier, Ward, & Reimer. I think a healthy Jimmy is better then any of them.

Ward, Cam

Hiller, Jonas

Backstrom, Niklas

Ramo, Karri

Khudobin, Anton

Reimer, James

Scrivens, Ben

Stalock, Alex

Johnson, Chad

Enroth, Jhonas

Montoya, Al

Peters, Justin

Lindback, Anders

Raanta, Antti NYR

Hutton, Carter

Gustavsson, Jonas

Desjardins, Cedrick NYR

Labarbera, Jason PHI

MacIntyre, Drew CAR

Smith, Jeremy

Zatkoff, Jeff

Budaj, Peter

Danis, Yann

Dell, Aaron

Ellis, Dan

Leighton, Michael

Plenty of cheap options for Mrazek's backup next season, I see.

Yeah i mean a trial run. They def need to sign one of the journeymen backups off that huge FA list for insurance first in case it doesnèt work out.
