xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Great all around game. I was hoping winning the outdoor game would give them a boost and it appears to have done that. Its great to see Jimmy Howard get back into form and not only get the win, but play really well, in that win. Sometimes all it takes a good win and performance like that to get back on track. Don't get me wrong, he's a long way from unseating Mrazek, but Mraz can't play all the games and games he's not in, can't be automatic losses like they've been the past couple months. Andreas Athanasiou. This guy's speed is ridiculous. I feel like every game now he's making a fantastic play and scores or nearly scores a goal. Reminds me of Fedorov when he first came to the NHL. First, Larkin, now Double A. How many more hidden gems do we have lurking around in our system? Also I don't do this much but I had to see what Stars fans were saying about the game tonight. Lot of bitching about the officiating and the fans tonight. I see they didn't like all the red there. Don't even get me started about the refs. I remember a game against Dallas (ironically enough) where Brad May scored and the refs called it no goal because they meant to blow the whistle before he shot it in even though the whistle came WELL after the puck was shot in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v0HSV6yIYQ The refs are a part of the game and they usually are terrible. Officiating didn't cost them the game, they're inability to stop Double A did. Once again, this western road game sounded like another home game. Geez, I kind of wish the Wings still played in the West now. SJ, Anaheim, Glendale and now Dallas, all very loud buildings in favor of the Wings. I noticed there was a lot of red in the stands in the game in Pittsburgh too. More than I'm used to seeing. Our fan base is apparently growing even without winning a Stanley Cup. 1 NerveDamage reacted to this

LeftWinger 4,950 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 @HeleneStJames: Jeff Blashill said he told Wings before Dallas game: "This is what I wanted. I wanted our group. I believe in our group." #tradedeadline Love this quote I wonder if in situations like yesterday, where both Holland and Blashill pretty much told the team, by not making a deal, that you guys ARE my team and we believe in you, I wonder if the players get a boost of confidence and actually play harder subconsciously? It's not like they don't play hard prior, but do you think, in their heads, there's like a sense of relief and pride that actually makes them play harder? I tell you what, I couldn't watch the entire game, it was on across the room, but when I could look up at it , it looked like the fastest Wings team I have seen in a long time! Speaking of fast, we all know how fast Larkin is, but do you think AA is just as, if not a bit faster? Also referring to my statement above, it just looked like the guys who were mostly tossed around out there in trade availability (Helm, Nyquist, Howard) really looked like the were playing on cloud 9...it was nice to see. They probably had that sense of what I mentioned above, for sure! Hopefully it'll translate into the rest of the season leading us to 25 straight years! Good on All of them! GMRwings1983 8,793 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Red Wings all time Overtime goals list - Fedorov - 15 Shanahan - 12 Yzerman - 8 Datsyuk - 8 (after today)* Zetterberg - 7 That's amazing because Fedorov did it in a different era. I'm guessing a lot of those goals were during 5 on 5 OT, let alone 4 on 4. Also I don't do this much but I had to see what Stars fans were saying about the game tonight. sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Wow, the Wings really got screwed last night. The one Stars goal should have clearly been disallowed for a kicking motion, and the other should have never even happened, since it should have not been called an icing. Hilarious that someone said Stars fans were bitching about the officiating. Do they not realize the only reason they even won was because of the officiating? NerveDamage 4,176 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I keep seeing comments about the "kick" goal and the dive. The Kick: I'm no expert here but, as someone that knows about soccer, the movement he makes with his feet pivoting with the ankles looks like when you try to lift the ball with just the tip of both feet. He looked like trying to control the bounce off the shins. The Dive: Nyquist was hooked, no doubt about it, but what I see is Gus going low, protecting the puck and losing his step due to his left hand pulled back on to his knee and not being able to make the next stride. But whatever, that's how hockey is. Just like Abby pushing the goalie into the net and the goal was still allowed. Some you win some you lose but watching them play like that against one of the top teams in the league gives us confidence for what's to come Edited March 1, 2016 by NerveDamage 4 puckloo39, xtrememachine1, Wheelchairsuperhero and 1 other reacted to this
Bill Berzeench 310 Report post Posted March 1, 2016 Nyquist embellished, but the ref saw that the first play really was a hook and would have led to an off man rush the other way. The ref absolutely made the right call there.

The ref absolutely made the right call there. Eh. If the Wings were defending and Glendening hooked Spezza like that LGW would be in an uproar, especially because the whistles were put away up to that point. It was a weak call that was helped along with a dive. Not that I'm complaining lol. Jimmy deserved the W and it would have sucked to spoil AA's big game by not winning it. If the puck hadnt gone directly to a Dallas player with an odd numbered transition attack imminent, I think the ref would have let it go. But Dallas was going to jump into a 2 on 1 or maybe a 2 on 0 if the call wasnt made. Weak call if it was 5 on 5. Must make call 3 on 3. Yah?
