Kronwall Injury

The one man on the point deal has been the bane of the teams pp all damn season. Makes it far too easy for the puck to be cleared. Should be kronwall and Green together on kne unit, not each being the only dman separate dmen.

It would be like having lids and Rafalski on separate units in 2008. Better than what we have now sure, but at their best running the first unit together.

It's pretty bad when 8 years later well into their 40's they'd still be the top two dmen on this team. I know you just can't plan for the retirement of guys like that, but Holland didn't even seem to try. He waited until it was about to happen and tried to throw money at Suter and overvalued Kronwall. I think that's why Kronwall has declined sooner than he should have..he had too much placed on his shoulders at once and got burnt out.

Kronner is best used as a second pairing defenseman, he can be physical and not having to play over his capabilities and risk injuries. Why favorite memories of him will always be how good of an open ice hitter this guy has been for so many years. Then he signed the extension and it's like he forgot how to hit...of course the **** suspension last year had something to do with :(

It's now almost half a decade since Lidas retired...time to fix the defense.

Minus the Stanley Cup he played a big part in helping us win.

Kronwall is just misused. He's a good 2B. We have him playing 1A.

We are missing the awesome 1A that every cup team has.

___________-DeKeyser

Smith-Kronwall

Marchenko-Ericsson

If you put the name Drew Doughty into that blank space, do you like the defense? Yah.

So what is Holland doing since we cant have Doughty?

Answer - picking his butt and saying the stupid things he always says.

Blashill has not done a good job this year at all. He is a rookie and is still learning but this has been by no means a success for him. I don't think he's lost the confidence of the locker room but you can tell their is a sense of disorganization that nobody has any answers for. Blashill has to find some kind of identity by next year or he's gone. I wouldn't be that suprised if we miss the playoffs and he's fired for a more experienced coach. This season has been a failure in every way

I gotta admit, i agree with this post 100%. We have big expectations here and Blashill was supposed to be able to smoothly come in and coach this roster because he had so much prior experience with tons of the young guys. If we miss out on the playoffs this year, he needs to get axed.

While I don't believe Blashill has been spectacular by any stretch, he certainly hasn't been terrible, and the chances of Blashill getting fired after a single season is as unlikely as Holland getting fired after this season... in other words zero...

I don't think the Wings have the loyalty in Blashill as we might think. What do we expect from them? Give him 5 years to develop? That's not really how coaching works when you're in the business of winning as much as possible. Wings would be foolish to not try and get a guy like Tippett if he became available. For what reason would it benefit the wings to carry on with an inexperienced coach? Pretty much every young coach bounces around teams before they establish themselves

Blashill isn't going anywhere. However, Ferschweiler should have been fired long ago and hopefully he's gone by next season. Our biggest issue, and the reason we're in so many tight games, is because our power-play is basically non-existent... We have all the same personel as last season, with the additions of Green and Richards but we went from number 2 (1 for most of the season) all the way down to number 24 with the coaching change on the PP...

Exactly. Holland seems to think he is a 1A calibre defenceman though. Even when he signed Green he said he wanted him on the second pairing with DeKeyser behind Kronwall/Ericsson. Goes to show how much he overrates the defence.

It's not about misuse.

We literally have no one else to rely on.

People are acting as though we have a 1A.

We don't. We have Kronwall, Dekeyser, Green at best. They can only make do with what they have. Suter went home to Minn and the other highly coveted D-man just resigned with his own team (Byfuglien).

Sure Yandle might be available but I'm willing to bet people will ***** about him if we sign him and he doesn't live up to it. It's the same thing with Wings fans. We get excited with Weiss, Alfie, Green get signed but then 1 year later it's all about how so and so is a bust and so and so signed X player and is a terrible GM blah blah blah.

Yeah, misuse is the wrong word. Not much you can do when you don't have a top D in your system and can't sign one via free agency. MIGHT be able to trade for one, but that would take assets that Holland seems unwilling to give up.

So we just put our hands over our privates and line up to get beaned with free kicks? Come on, dude. The GM has got to get it done. Holland is past the point of being defendable. He's missed every guy who could actually help this team and has overpayed a lot of guys who can't.

Detroit isn't a place top free agents want to sign anymore, for one reason or another. Holland has tried to land the top guy they need. You can offer a guy more money than where he eventually signs, but if he doesn't want to play for you, what can you do? Most UFAs these days end up re-signing with their current teams before they even hit free agency, and those who do test the market tend to favour places where they have some kind of personal connection unless the money is just too good to turn down, but Holland also doesn't like to overpay for free agents. He'll overpay his drafted guys though. It's weird.

This team just can't defend without Kronwall. Please end this nightmare by bringing up some guys from GR. Burn those call up's we got left. It can't get worse, really. This defense is nothing but pathetic. Smith and Green just can't defend. They may have a little upside offensively but their overall play is just poor.

Ericsson and Quincey are a little better, but also not good enough. I liked them earlier in the season but man do they look weak and slow now. No way you can give them more minutes or play against opponents top units.

DeKeyser as good as ever and Marchenko is starting to look better but it's not enough.
